If you're old enough and carry an ID, why being such a pain and not have it handy and show it when requested to? Sheesh. Have you got something to hide?

My missus works in an office at a supermarket - everyone there knows she's nearly 30, but the checkout staff still ask her for ID when she buys wine - WHY? Because they get the smack-down from their supervisors if they don't.

markh14: Why do I always have to show my photo id when i go into a nightclub? I know the bouncer and he knows that I'm over 18 but he still says I have to show him my id. Why?

Same answer as the fella moaning at me last week.. "If I let you in without seeing ID, and the Cops come in for random checks, ask you for your ID and you dont have it.. I'm in deep doodoo. We can get fined for that action alone, and even if we didnt, we are then on sh*t list, and get the inspectors in every week killing the party.

so pipe down, get your ID out, or GTFO. Laughing "

As said to a young fella trying to get in.

It is a defence to a charge under subsection (1) of this section if the defendant proves that he or she believed on reasonable grounds that the person to whom the charge relates had attained the age of 18 years.

http://www.legislation.govt.nz/act/public/1989/0063/latest/DLM165116.html

So what are the bouncers worrying about? As long as you believed a person is 18 or over your sweet.

A doorman can ask to see you ID for a variety of reasons. Maybe he thinks you alwyas look a bit pissed, so he's using the id as a chance to stop you and chat, maybe he doesn't like the look of you, maybe he REALLY likes the look of you...

If you don't like it. You really only have one option. Go elsewhere.

Reasonable grounds actually means like "saw an ID, and had no reason to believe it was fake" or "has grey hair and uses a walker".  Not "he told me he was 18".

Exactly that, but like I said as well, you dont want to get on the LL Inspectors bad side.
If that happens you can expect the cops to be doing ID & intoxication checks every hour, every day. Nobody wants that.
