Why do I always have to show my photo id when i go into a nightclub? I know the bouncer and he knows that I'm over 18 but he still says I have to show him my id. Why?

Why don't you ask him yourself? I think he's probably the only person who can actually answer that question.

Do you look under 25?

If yes he is by law required to ask for ID

This.

Plus it's good to be in the habit. What if you were using a fake ID last week but your parents took it off you etc?

You think that's annoying? Wait till you're a bit older and they don't even blink at you. THAT's depressing.

Enjoy it while it lasts!

Exactly, if the bouncer know you, he knows the answer.

Though, I will make this guess... The bars policy will be to ask ID for EVERYONE who looks under 25 years. This will be so the bar staff do not need to ID you when you ask for drinks, etc.

Also, if you happen to be asked for ID while you are in the bar, it does happen, and you 'left it at home' then a bouncer will get in the shit. What happens if there are two or more bouncers, who gets the blame? Or if your 'mate' happens to go home and you are still here... as you can see, the bouncer will be doing it to cover his arse, and his employers.

Maybe there's a camera recording what the bouncer does.

Maybe he likes you and is hoping to spark up a pleasant conversation so he can eventually take you home?

Also remember that the bouncer would possibly get his but kicked when if the licensing authority / police came to do a random check and he wasn't asking people that look under 25 for ID. Also it?s the Bar Manager that gets fined not him so bouncers like to keep their boss's happy. (possibly wouldn't have a job if the bar got fined)

Don't you mean look under 18? You only have to be 18 to enter a nightclub.

Yes but have you not seen the signs up everywhere, "If you look under 25 please don't be offended if you are asked for ID"

Well these are up at the clubs I frequent anyway

I dont really get what the problem is, who cares it takes like 2 seconds to show you ID when you go in. Every bar / club requires a check on the door. It would only be a problem if your underage or using your mates.
Pointless thread really.

Most licenced premises and off-licence stores such as bottle stores and supermarkets all simply enforce guidelines that they will ask anybody who looks under 25 for ID.

Given I work as a bouncer part time, I'm actually emininently qualified to answer this.

I generally work front door, and myself and the other bouncers have a policy of ID'ing everyone WHO APPEARS under the age of 25, unless we know them well (in which case I am personally vouching that I know this person is over the age of 18), or the bar owner personally approves their entry.
BTW the only approved ID is a Passport, NZ Drivers License, HANZ 18+ card. I quite regularly get given foreign drivers licenses, national ID cards, birth cerificates, student ID's, NZ defence force ID, and firearms licenses. Not to mention the drunk people who try and give me their eftpos/credit card.

Maybe he just does not remember you.
But only acts like it, or only vaguely recalls your face? Customer skills you see ;)
