The great Prophet Nerd has decreed that you will not blaspheme or desecrate the image or name of the almighty Holy Geek. If you do we will take out a Geek'had on you and all your family. We will burn your consulate and boycott your goods.

The great Prophet Nerd has spoken.

Very clever!!! Which begs the question......is a nerd worthy of being even a lowly prophet to a geek?

Well, the way things are going i think I'm going to have to bite my tounge and fall back to the relative safeness of not saying anything on the subject.

Altho on unrelated subjects I do remember the old joke.
"There are 11 types of people in the world. Those that understand binary, and those that don't."

LMAO. Wondered how long it would take someone to twig to that one. ;p Although I did cheat and use a tool for the conversion. I'm not quite 'that' fluent. : )

Yeah, I was tempted to do something even more bizarre like a non standard base, or just base 10, but that'd likely get too confusing.

All this talk about nerds vs geeks makes me wonder which category I fit into but, when I really think about, I come to the conclusion that it really doesn't matter.

Humans have a natural tendancy to want to feel as if we belong in some sort of social group, hence why we try to apply these stereotypes. In reality, though, we're all individuals which means that our personality types vary on a continuous scale, rather than fitting neatly into distinct groups.

Now that is an interesting point. Every time you fill out a government form they want your ethnicity. Which is always 'NZ European'. I have as much to do with Europe as the Pope has to do with running brothels. Talk about being put in a pigeon hole. I always tick 'other' and list myself as a New Zealander.

I have a friend who is 5th generation kiwi of chinese descent. He always struggles with this one.

Last census I decided that my religion was Jedi - this year I think I will list me religion as Geek.

I'll volunteer if you still need an MSN nerd. PM me if you do.. I'm not sure I am in the uber geek realm some of these other fellows are, but I manage ;)

Yep. Anyone's ethnicity can be comprised of any number of different ethnic groups, with an infinite number of possible proportions. How would I define my ethnicity if I had a 12.5/12.5/25/10/40 split, for example?

Religion is also blurred. Christians, for example, have views which vary in terms of their conservatism towards euthenasia, sex outside of marriage, etc.

I think I'm going to have fun with the census this year...
