I need a nerd to have on my MSN.

I have a few, but one just got a nerdy little girlfriend so he's actually no help anymore. I need someone to answer random questions when I want to ask them. Do I save to disk or run? Whats the difference between MB and KB? How did I make the font on my browser a size bigger and how do I fix it? Why this, fix that, help me with this, etcetera.

If you think you fit the criteria, please post your email address so I can add you. Or, if you're iffy about posting your email on here (oooh) just PM me.

That would just be dandy!

I don't think nerd is the right word and a insult to many users on here but geek is fine

Maybe you could marry a nerd. Then you would have help on hand whenever you need it.

Just make sure you remind him to take a shower, and to and tidy up the empty Coke cans and pizza boxes from time to time.

SO sorry love. I dont mean nerd guys, i mean GEEK. I didnt know there was any kind of a difference. Maybe you shouldnt be so sensitive?

I slept with a nerd for a while, that was pretty sweet, now I know what a motherboard and a soundcard is. I doubt I would marry one though. Thanks for the thought anyway.

: D

This is one of the best off-topic threads so far...

Let's see... dictionary.com lists both nerd and geek with the same definitions:

"1.A foolish, inept, or unattractive person; 2. A person who is single-minded or accomplished in scientific or technical pursuits but is felt to be socially inept."

You will see in reality people tend to put nerd in a step further in terms of lack of social behaviour... Geek is a little better.

There's an interesting discussion of Geek x Nerds on Wikipedia.com. See Wikipedia.com: Nerd and Wikipedia.com: Geek. Lots of discussion on this topic there.

As for your original request, keep posting here. It will help you and anyone else with the same questions, but no courage to ask...

So, miss_louie admits to sleeping with someone who is foolish, inept and unattractive. Oh well, we've all done it at some stage in our lives (usually after one too many Tuis)!

When someone says nerd, i think pasty white social outcast, big thick glassses who sits contemplating the theories of Einstein and all those other stereotypical things.

Geek....well, somebody who knows their gadgets and gizmos. Very knowledgeable in all things tech. Not at all pasty social outcasts. You might even find a large number play sport, that you would never find in a nerd. Some might even be manly enough to play contact sport. And just for the record, very good ice hockey player here!!!!

You cannot say geeks and nerds are the same. Thats like saying my bogan neighbours VL commodore is like my Ferrari 430. Its just not allowed in any circle of society.

I believe all of you are watching 'The Beauty and the Geek' contest on every Friday at 7.30 pm on TV3 (or Sky1). Or at least try to catch one episode, it's very funny though..

I agree. Geek has become a somewhat socially acceptable term in the last few years. Nerd hasn't really. It still has generally unpopular connotations to it. Geek has more of a 'knows computers/technology' type association to it.

*shrug* I've been a geek for as long as I can remember and don't mind being referred to as such. I draw the line at being referred to as a nerd.

You sir are a nerd and proud of it. In these times of tolerance and for want of a better word- freeness, that is your choice and good on you for being so open about it. But to label the rest of us as nerds is wrong. I have a life that does not revolve around computers and the like. I am most definately not socially retarded. I have a beautiful girlfriend(and for all you grubby old people out there i am not posting pics). I am a geek, i enjoy computers, i do a lot of my work on them, i will play the odd game but i do not make my life all about them. I play sport, socialise with my mates. There needs to be a balance, it is unhealthy in my opinion to not have a balance.

To speak ill of nerds is probably now discrimination or something but seriously spending 24/7 in a dark room in front of your highly modded pc that runs your own linux distribution or whatever its is you crazy cats do is sad.

I am proud to be Geek. I am no nerd

Hmmm. I don't think so. I am a Geek, and I do have a social life. I met my wife during dancing parties, I enjoy having people around for BBQ, I like movies (actually we go to the theatre almost every week) and my address book is filled of people I know and are not into computers.

Nope, a Geek is different from a nerd...
