okay and note this is a purely analytical post but I have seen the same page loaded by firefox and internet explorer, and firefox didnt load any of the graphics leaving a page that frankly looked like cr*p, the guy started to use firefox because he was convinced explorer was putting spyware on his pc (a little knowledge is a dangerous thing) and now he is stuck with it because he uninstalled explorer and has lost the disk.
and a lot of people take sides and ignore reason because it is fun (like me slanging off fords or dumb blondes) or because that is what they have been told since birth (just take a look at the various religons around the world)

This maybe a case of misallocated blame. It is common that page designers build MS specifics into their pages which are not compliant, therefore, compliant browsers can not open or fully load the content.

However, the reality of the matter is that MS having such a strong hold over the consumer industry, perhaps has the right to dictate compliance, and replace the W3C.

Resistance is futile...

or is it? It's up to the Web Developers to decide, if they continue to infuse their pages with MS specifics, the fight will be lost.

Well but considering IE has around 85% share in the browser market, you would stupid beyond any words to not make your pages display right in IE.

Im a web developer who builds sites for a lot of businesses so when building a site you have to take into account the fact that most people use IE. When i was using firefox i would find that some pages i was building didnt display right, but if you fixed them so they would well then it was broke in IE. You have to look at it in a practical way for business, im sure my clients wouldnt be that thrilled if for the the sake of following some standards that less than 10% of visitors could see the site properly. So i build my sites so that they work in IE and if i can get them to display right in FF without compromising their IE funtionality then thats a bonus.

Its not a system im that happy with, but for the moment its the only way.

and that is an example of the statement I made earlier, MS is now dictating the standard, not the W3C, to which firefox is aligned.

IE7 is much more standards compliant than 6 and eventually we will see a fully compliant IE. It is 6 years since IE6 came out and it is in that time that the W3C has been laying down most of their standards. So can you blame MS for having having a product that is not compliant with standards that were written after their product came out. And besides W3C standards arent law, nobody has to abide by them and people are free to choose IE or not

indeed, but my original point was the missallocation of blame that a cirtain browser was unable to load page content, where I speculated that the farmat of the source was the problem.
