Hey dont get me started on the catholics. I dont want to get all religous here. Not my style, but honestly if you claim to serve/worship God, but then you spend your time crying hail mary and praying to the "mother of god" isnt that just wrong? The concept of a god is such that a god wouldnt have a mother.

johnr: Thats the loser and I agree %100 with you Bard. Out the back of the court house and a lead injection from a .22

(hope this does not offend anyone on GZ) sorry but these child players get away with murder.

Castration with a blunt knife works for me!! Why spare them the pain and suffering that their victims are going to suffer all their lives?

bradstewart: But do you see them rioting and burning down the US embassy and any other western ones around? Nooooooo

That would be Canadian embassies in this case - South Park is a "Made in Canada" product.

I agree that there is a significant gap in the punishment process; however, the death sentence could cause the offenders to kill their victims (as murder has less punishment that child molestation). I would propose a genital removal and facial tattooing to identify them for ever as sex offenders and limiting their potential re-offending.

I noted that also, but was going to let it glide. I suspect however, that intellectual level of embassy burners would not lead to such research before reaction. If you hold an entire country responsible for the actions of one group, any level of rational deduction can not be assumed.

Absolutely but im sure that burning down the US one would feel a lot better to some people.

Im also going to use this opportunity to lament the demise of the ANZUS pact and the idiot in parliament who decided nuclear free is a good thing

Classic and I am still here as well aiming for the 1,000 mile stone.

Agree with you on the ANZUS and anti Nuke thing. What a joke - I read a letter in the Dom Post recently where some dork said thousands died in Chernobyl - what a joke it was actually like 12 people. Our perception of nuclear energy is stuck in some bad b&w 1950's post-apocalyptic B grade movie. The really funny thing is that for us to move to a Hydrogen economy (to lessen our reliance on oil) we would need to produce 3 times more electricity than we currently produce now. What are our options - burn more coal?

I am sure there are people offended by Brian Tamaki's show that is on every morning yet we don't see (many) people demanding that we take him off TV! :-)

Is there anybody out there who downloads South Park episodes and has this one yet?

Jama: Agree with you on the ANZUS

When some terrorists get their hands on some misplaced russian nuke and decide that old NZ just might be a nice target, does anyone really think the US is going to want to help us then? We had our chance 2 be friends with them and we slammed the door in their face, you dont do that to the biggest strongest kid in the playground, especially when hes your friend

mmmm how about we allow a national front cartoon that has lots of asian bashing. Or maybe a cartoon that shows woman getting raped.

no? why not if you guys are so up for free speech then lets just go the whole hog and allow snuff movies and the like.

The only reason you dont have an issue with this is that it is not something that offends you personally.

Don’t get me wrong I hate censorship as much as the next guy but where is this total disregard for others believes and culture of “how shocking can we be” going to take us.

Thats a great point. Its always been the question, where to draw the line between free speech and offending others. I do think there has to be a limit on free speech somewhere otherewise we do get into all sorts of trouble.

It all comes down to respecting and tolerating the views of other people and cultures and trying not to piss them off (too much anyway)

You have picked quite extreme things there (cartoon rape), i mean come on...
There is a difference between expressing yourself in a legitimate way, and hate speech (in any form, speech or otherwise).

I talk about the bishop because he does something (voluntarily, in fact he had to make an effort), and doesnt think i should be allowed to do it...

What im not doing is posting cartoons of sexual violation or making racist statements - all of which are beyond the bounds of common decency in anyones language.

If you are so -not- up for free speech, then we probably couldnt even say "I dont like the Crusaders".

What we really need is understanding, self-restraint and self-moderation, whilst still saying what we feel.

We have free speech in this country, but you couldnt get up on telly or radio, and say "im going to murder Helen Clark because she is a dirty pakeha", because thats beyond common decency and common sense, and is in fact likely to land you in court. - Yet this doesnt mean we dont have free speech either.

There is a lot of difference: what we have been discussing are ideas, and the examples you put are actions that actually harm people.
