Storm in a teacup. People are entitled to object to it, but anyone who finds it offensive is quite welcome to just reach for the 'off' switch!

This is such a "touchy" topic these days. I personally don't feel offended by anyone's opinion on these matters, and a TV program or a cartoon is something used to express the author/director's feelings, mood, ideas. And we can't censor ideas, otherwise individualism, self-expression and other things will just fly out of the window.

"I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it." (in one of the many of Voltaire's translations).

As Alasta says, just reach and turn off the TV set - but don't limit my right to see it if I want.

Good post freitasm and I agree. I have been a big south park fan for years and I don't want one group of people telling a TV broadcaster what I can and can not watch.

I say C4 have made the right choice and I will be watching it.

Many programmes early in the morning offend me (espically sunday morning) but am I complaining no I just don't watch them.

John

The bishop that was on Campbell Live -chose- to watch it, but wants to disallow me the chance to see it? What a hypocrite!

It falls within the law, its genuine satire, its on an 'alternative channel' - almost no one would see it by accident, you would have to choose to view it (if you were that uptight and watching C4 you would turn southpark off in the first 30 seconds if you didnt know what it was.)
Let those who want to watch it do that, and let those who dont want to watch it, not watch it.

I wonder what other objectionable material the bishop watches in the name of censorship of his congregation (so he can know first hand how evil a movie [or series of movies] is.) Surely he should be leading by example. I wonder how big his DVD collection is, and if he has to hide any of it.

The laughable thing is that a few thousand people would have watched it, but not for bishop whats-his-face, now the audience will be much larger!!

Well done CanWest!!

P.S. I will not be watching it, but its nice to know I can.

I think its a bit rich for an organisation that was responsible for the Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition and more recently inappropriate behaviour by priests to get upset about a silly little satirical cartoon. Seriously its a draconian organisation run by white men in silly costumes.

As a non catholic christian, i dont find the whole thing offensive.

However im sure that this is just as if not more offensive to catholics (who for some stupid reason revere a woman more than God) than the whole cartoon thing is to muslims. But do you see them rioting and burning down the US embassy and any other western ones around? Nooooooo

And according to the bible don't you burn in hell for worshipping 'false gods'? Mary is hardly a 'god'.

As long as it stays seemly, its healthy to have intelligent discussions (even with the odd pot shot thrown in)

I would make the comment that you should be prepared to publicly defend anything you say on a messageboard. If you might really regret it later, it may not be wise to post it at all.

Dont forget to take into consideration your family, employer, & friends who will forever (nearly) have access to see what you have written.

johnr: I agree %100 with you Bard.

(Imagining bradstewart with a mandolin and some mediaeval lyrics, trailing behind a band of merry men (geeks??))
And johnr - where is your avatar... ? Did it get lost? Fall off? Rejected? Or have you just not submitted one yet maybe??

I found one for you here.
