eracode: Drop him for good. The guy is simply a total dickhead.

I agree.

BraaiGuy: I think Paul Henry looks remarkable similar to Anand Satyanand Tongue out

Funny, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw the photos side by in the DomPost this morning. Just touch the skin tones up and down a bit - they could be twins!

semigeek: Paul Henry has been suspended until 18th October without pay for his comments about the Governor General yesterday on Breakfast. He did apologise.  PC madness gone crazy?

How is it PC gone mad when someone says something blatantly racist?

Agreed. Seems like everybody is to scared or nervous to say something that may be seen as "racist". Good on you Paul. Cant wait to see you back on the Screens.

IMO there is a clear difference between something that could be misinterpreted as racist,  and something that is clearly racist.  Paul Henry's comment on the governer general falls squarely in the latter camp - i.e. clearly racist.

I dont think it was Racist really. We live in New Zealand, not some other foreign country. But then again how do you classify a "kiwi/Nzer" - It is a very hard thing to do. For example somebody of asian descent, born in NZ - would they be acknowledged as a Kiwi or an asian?

Ive got absoloutley no problem with people from other countries living here in NZ, so long as they abbide (Spelling?) by our rules and dont try and bring there own.

As I said yesterday, if somebody is going to represent NZ on the world Stage then we would want somebody who looks "Kiwi". Lets say you just came to this world and for example you stood the GG and the Pakistan (just an example) President/Prime Minister side by side, how would you no which one represents NZ?

Mate you'd better stop posting before you dig yourself a bigger hole

To use your example, how would you tell the British/French/Italian and New Zealand Prime Ministers apart if you stood them next to each other?

And exactly where are your family from originally, lived here since the dawn of time have they?

What does a 'Kiwi' look like?

I am South African European and I would not have been at all offended if I was asked this question by Paul Henry. This is just being made out to be racist because Anand Satyanand is a man of colour. That's all, if he was a European their would be no issue.

In fact, I don't see why so much fuss is being made out about the whole thing. There are other issues with Maoris etc being allowed more rights to things than European descendent kiwis. To me that?s blatant racism right there. Also being referred to as a Pakeha a number of times by some kiwis to me is also racism. But then, all these issues are tiny in comparison to the sort of racism europeans are exposed to in South Africa.

Europeans exposed to racism in South Africa, as opposed to the liberal freedoms offered to the black africans during the apartheid regime?

That's because if he wasn't a man of colour the question wouldn't have been asked, that's the whole point

If the guy was European descent, then he wouldn't have said it at all - which is the whole point.  Paul Henry only said what he did because the governer general has dark brown skin, implying that people with that colour skin do not look 'kiwi', whereas white people do. That is what is racist about it.

You clearly have no understanding about the current situation in South Africa, so not to jump from topic too much here is a little summary. According to the statistics about 21,000 people were killed under the apartheid government, by the apartheid government or died in political violence in South Africa during apartheid (1948 and 1994). Today in South Africa under Black African rule there are about 60murders and 150 rapes per day. Was apartheid wrong. definitely. Is South Africa better off today, definitely not, hence the high amount of European South Africans living right here in NZ.

Back to topic, this is being blown out of proportion because it happened to a man of colour.

Cant say I agree with that. Only Paul Henry would be able to answer that one. All I am saying is that if I was asked the question, I most certainly would have not been offended.

Actually I do as my boss is ex Durban and 2 of my best friends from the UK are Safas and are now back in Capetown and Port Elizabeth.

And what exactly is a 'European South African', isn't that just a PC way of saying you're white?

As opposed to Hone Harawira's comments being blown up when he said he'd rather his kids didn't bring home a girlfriend/boyfriend that was European - which to me, and most people was equally racist. Funnily enough there wasn't much of a debate about that outcry being "PC".

This is being blown up because it was clearly an offensive thing for someone to say on a mainstream "news" program, not because of who it was said about.
