That's probably more random Richms and more likely to be a result of scatty immaturity.
This seems more targeted and more beneficial to the telcos.
My point is that we should have the ability to identify such abusers and quickly and if not, why not?
I have a Vodafone mobile number they have called from in this latest attack that was not i.d. blocked.  Vodafone states that it is current and prepaid but won't identify it's owner - if in fact they even can (which is another situation that needs sorting).
Their off-shore call centre operator - who I could barely understand - just parroted their policy at me and refused to help further.
Meantime we pay.
This is wrong, threatening to our survival as all sales come in through our 0800 number, and very lucrative for the telcos.
Anyone smell rodent?

That's good advice Coulsong, but I've done all that.
I have hung up as soon as I recognise the background noise, stayed silent, dropped the phone back in the cradle without even putting it to my ear, call after call.
This goes on for weeks.
Last time they were hitting me with calls from three different mobiles at a time. It was impossible to answer genuine business calls for up to 15 minutes.
It doesn't matter what reaction they get they still keep calling. That is why I suspect that there is more to this than ratbag kids.

No, again, even more suspicious, they just seemed to target us because we are there.

I find it very strange for you to be randomly targeted.  Are you completely sure that you (or your staff) haven't baited anyone recently, and this could be retaliation?

Either its random or its a business with a name or marketing that attracts randoms, like a dick doctor or similar

We haven't annoyed anyone. These are the same kids.

Trust me, this is common - just ask Pizza Hutt or any other high end 0800/0508 user.

Strikes me this is a good way for telco execs to pay their ratbag kid's pocket money.

Otherwise why????

These boy's voices have broken. They're not children. Don't you think they could find something better to do with their hormones?

If we receive a call like this we block the number of the PABX (by redirecting it to a extension that doesn't exist)

Have a extension that loops Rick Astley or Trolol, if anyone annoys you (or if a telemarketer calls) just put them through to that extension, works well :)

Yes but you can get your provider to block cell phones. The IRD and many other companies will block calls from cell phones, as they cost them too much. Do you actually need an 0800 number, as I find if someone wants to call you, they don't care that it may cost them a bit via a normal call, becasue their time is more valuable than a few cents or dollars.

I quite agree - if they want your product they don't care as long as they can make contact.

Seems to me it would be interesting to see how many businesses lose significant sums like this and where those calls originate.

perhaps an automated "this call may be recorded" message at the start might slow them down?
