kingjj: The next wedding I'm off to in March is formal attire and my wonderful girlfriend won't stop reminding me constantly :-) When we were with the engaged couple the other night the future bride even made the comment that I better be in my Sunday best or else... Jeans = Long Trip with Family in Aussie till the heat dies down...

Years ago when I went to my Mum's second wedding her side was all in suits and ties, his side (west coasters) were in their swandries and gumboots (I kid you not). Even in my awesome purple shirt and tie I felt a little over dressed haha.

Good call btw thebender!

Formal = morning dress/white-tie; or
NZ Formal = smart casual Laughing

I guess we're a pretty dressed down country, which is why on our wedding invites we stated dress code as semi-formal, even though the wedding party was going formal morning dress.  I didn't really expect everyone to rock up in a suit, but I hoped that it would discourage jeans.  I'm sure some people turned up in jeans though.

nate: My take on this depends on your relationship with bride/groom and where it is.

If you are close family or it's in a church, dress pants, shirt and tie
If it's outside, or you are extended family/friends, trendy jeans, black shoes and a dress shirt are fine
If it's a dry wedding, politely turn down the invite Tongue out

The key words are Black dress shoes with jeans.

I have decided to go with the black pants instead of jeans. Even though the bride said jeans are fine
