Have a wedding to go to soon, and am thinking about wearing tidy dress jeans and a good shirt to it. Anyone been to a wedding where some guests have been in good jeans?

TBH it depends on what the dress code is, If it is smart casual then yes I couldn't see what would be wrong with a nice pair of jeans.

But of course if it is formal, Black Pants and Shirt is the way to go.

yup I have. Me and the Mrs had a big fight over whether it was appropriate or not. I lost and had to wear dress pants (manliness fail). First 3 guys we saw at the wedding were all wearing good jeans and a shirt.

Last few weddings I have been to have all had guys in dressy jeans (not ripped etc).

i went to a westie wedding, i was about the only person in a suit. the groom had a untucked black shirt and im pretty sure jeans. he was drinking a bar while waiting for the bride to walk down the isle (it was an outside wedding).

so really depends on the crowd.

Always dress pants and a shirt. Jacket and tie optional, but dress pants are expected. Any guys showing up in jeans will be forever in the bride's dog box....and constantly brought up in marital arguments "why don't you go hang out with that prick of a friend who wore jeans to our wedding!"

Unless it is specifcally stated on the invite that casual wear is fine, I would never wear jeans to a wedding.

If it turns out that jeans were ok, then wearing black pants is still ok, but if it turns out that it was a more formal event, then wearing jeans makes you look like a massive douche.

+1 to the chance of douchebaggery if wearing jeans.

The last wedding I was at, some clown wore a T-shirt. He was seated at the table front and centre of the bridal table at the dinner, so in EVERY photo of the reception, there's this guy! Very bad look indeed. I Concur that unless it is otherwise made very clear, jeans would probably look too informal.

Cheers,
Joseph.

at my wedding, back in june, all my family/friends were dressed well, but her family all showed up in jeans, one was wearing a baseball cap.  i guess thats what you get for marrying a westie :P

Better to overdress than underdress. As a rule, I wouldn't wear jeans. It does depend on the wedding, you should get the vibe from the invite/knowing the people. Pretty much every wedding I have been to, someone is wearing jeans, but that doesn't make it right.

I don't think you have to wear black pants, if it's a spring/summer wedding especially.

I hope it was one of those tuxedo tshirts!

My take on this depends on your relationship with bride/groom and where it is.

If you are close family or it's in a church, dress pants, shirt and tie
If it's outside, or you are extended family/friends, trendy jeans, black shoes and a dress shirt are fine
If it's a dry wedding, politely turn down the invite Tongue out

Definitely not jeans to a wedding. Anything but jeans.

It depens on what people are wearing for example my dad got married in a white long sleeve shirt and jeans.
so i went in a tidy pair of jeans and a white shirt. dad didn't want to be in a Tucks because it made him uncomfortable and we wanted him to be comfortable.

I think your best bet would be to ask the people who are going if it is ok if you can ware jeans.

Just my 2 cents worth good luck.

if you can talk to the bride, casually check with her. That's what I did for two friends wedding next month. As a result, i'll be wearing my suit :)

my wedding is going to be outside and regardless of whom it was, i wouldnt like anyone to come in jeans!
the couple go to a huge expense to make the day perfect and beautiful, the guest who is there for free, and the couple paying at least $100+ for this person to be there, as far as im concerned, the least people can do is turn up and be dresses nicely.

if its specified that its casual, or say a beach wedding in the islands, of course it would be more acceptable.
when in doubt - ask the bride or groom.

The next wedding I'm off to in March is formal attire and my wonderful girlfriend won't stop reminding me constantly :-) When we were with the engaged couple the other night the future bride even made the comment that I better be in my Sunday best or else... Jeans = Long Trip with Family in Aussie till the heat dies down...

Years ago when I went to my Mum's second wedding her side was all in suits and ties, his side (west coasters) were in their swandries and gumboots (I kid you not). Even in my awesome purple shirt and tie I felt a little over dressed haha.

Good call btw thebender!
