I would say yes, if she is anything like mine:

 - Requires large amounts of time
 - Requires large amounts of money
 - Is fun to be around
 - Gives you enjoyment Wink

As my avatar suggests...dogs! Well...activities involving dogs...walking, pulling carts, obedience training, breeding, showing, organising social events involving dogs etc. etc.

That should be sufficiently far from geeky/techie activities.

Photography (though that turned into a business). SingStar (badly). Home renovations - mostly paying people to do it but I do bits and pieces myself. I don't count my girlfriend as a hobby... she wouldn't like that.

I enjoy reading books on World War II submarine warfare. I got lucky few years back a guy on TM was selling a bundle of 63 books fiction/non fiction all on WWII subs - German Uboats / USN Fleetboats, British subs, Japanese empire navy subs and a couple about the Italian navy submarines and frogmen. I was in paradise for months. If I was a millionaire I would buy me a World War II submarine either a US Fleetboat or a German Uboat and live in it. They actually sell World War II submarines in USA to anyone interested 300K asking price. As for WWII Uboats there is a German company that will build you one for the right price. This is my ultimate dream. :)

Played the sax for many years from high school through to university days. Been in a few bands playing the sax, percussion and the drums. Also some keyboards (got taught the easy bits in some songs hehe!)

Even score a TV gig with TVNZ on Tv1 a few years back. Anyone remember Danny's Cafe hosted by Danny Watson? Interesting experience that one, we demo'd for the producer and he took back the tape to study. Our band changed the entire lyrics to the song, so when we got to Chch, and we did the first take, he says "Great video, but the lyrics dont match what I've written down?" So a quick hour later, we planned the shoot again with the new lyrics.. 2nd take.. He says great audio, but i want to change some of the angles.. so he asked us to lip synch/perform for the next take.. very interesting! We all do the wanna be star performer lip synch at home, in the shower or when drunk at parties, but I found it quite hard to do for a proper show!

Mid 90s I ditched the band thing and started DJ'ing in clubs and also mobile DJ'ing for birthday parties, wedding receptions, school balls, and other similar functions to supplement income. Don't do it as much these days, as it's quite an expensive hobby now! Pretty much anything outside of work will be music related.

Lately I've been doing a bit more with my Full HD Camcorder also.

Just kidding - that's the reply my wife would offer - I'm into a bunch of different stuff -- I spent a lot of time over the last few years trying to come to grips with Quantum Mechanics and the history of physics, and although I can't suggest that I understand it, I can say that I can find it 'familiar' now a bit.

I got very excited about astronomy a while back and went out and bought an 8" Newtonian telescope (now for sale if anyone wants it) I found I just didn't have the patience required to get a clear night, set everything up, sit out in the cold for hours to get a good shot and then find the whole exercise ruin as the clouds rolled in.  Besides I've got a great collection of photos from "Astronomy Photo of the Day"

I'm working with a group here and in Australia to investigate the possibility of building a cryogenic suspension facility down here.  I hope to get frozen when I die and get reanimated in a couple hundred years -- I want to be the oldest ensign on the Enterprise.

Like another member mentioned, I too am into woodworking and also love my power tools - I've got a nice "Triton" system set up in my garage and enjoy using it to fix and build stuff for the house.

I've got a worm farm and use the castings to fertilize the garden which I also enjoy working in - we've got a few fruit trees that have been doing well over the last few years - the grapefruit were especially good this year and I'm looking forward to some sweet peaches this year.

But mostly it's the tech -- my website (www.hazen.co.nz - shameless plug) is starting to get a following and that's a real buzz.

The down side, sadly, is that I've been out of work for a couple years and all things being equal I'd rather have a job - but the market for 'retirement age' techies is in a slump just at the moment.

I'm surprised at the number of automotive enthusiasts among us - I'd have figured that to be a Jeckle and Hyde kind a thing - but if it works for you - great.

  all the best,

Make knives as a hobby (occasionally now, as time and other actviities permit!).  The workshop (built it with my brother in law, so into building as well!) also doubles as an engineerring play-place (metalwork and wood).  Just taking a month off work now - allows me to get onto the bulldozer on the farm and push some dirt - always great fun.  Playing with all machinery, big and small, is always fun - I'm one of the few people in the world (probably) who lays claim to having a Masters degree in Agricultural Machinery - no-one else would be silly enough to publicise it!!!
