freitasm:
Air New Zealand is a good example, removing the Space+ seats from domestic and Trans-Tasman flights this year. If you don't know the Space+ seats were the first six or so rows with an extra three inches legroom, usually reserved for people with Gold status or Koru members who remembered to select seats online (or at the airport when available).

I used those all the time, shame it's gone now.

I flew Air NZ to Melbourne a few months ago on a full economy fare and got the Space+ seats which were great.  I've just got back from another trip to Melbourne and again was a full economy fare but couldn't choose a seat in the first six rows which sucked big time.  I was in row 8 and row 9 respectively and they were normal seats.  I'm pretty sure the first six rows have more leg room but they aren't called Space+ any more.  To make matters worse the new entertainment system seemed to have half the selection that it used to have and there were quite a few of the same movies and TV show episodes that they had when I last flew.  The service was great as usual, but the rest of my Air NZ experience was disappointing and seemed like a step backwards.

sbiddle: For those who are getting excited about the many cool features of this plane it's worth noting that it's Air NZ's first 777 to go with a 3-4-3 economy seat plan.

The existing 777-200's are 3-3-3 so now there is an extra seat per row in the 300's. You still get good seat pitch but the seats are now narrower than before. This gives them space to fit in significantly more premium economy and business class seats at the front while maintaining roughly the same number of economy seats.

There have been a few airlines deploy 10 abreast seating in 777's (such as BA) and many people have disliked it feeling it was too cramped. I've flown on both and have to agree.

I agree, 3-4-3 on a 777 is awfully cramped and crowded feeling.  Fortunately BA got rid of their 3-4-3 configured 777s a number of years ago and went back to entirely 3-3-3 configured.  Emirates still run 3-4-3 in their 777s and it's not a comfortable squeeze for the long haul flights.

Air Asia X is also extremely narrow on their A330 aircraft with 3-3-3 (instead of 2-4-2), resulting in about 16" wide seats for passengers - this is 2" narrower than Air NZ/Qantas etc seats, which makes me wonder how successful their flights to Christchurch will really be. I doubt I could actually squeeze into one.
