Alright thanks guys.

The car i'm using has an automatic transmission, so maybe they won't ask for a hillstart ,
but just in case its basically:

handbrake on , foot on accelerator lightly till car moves, handbrake off....right ?

Let's hope i get a cheery guy.

i did mine in an auto too, the guy made me do a hillstart and i tried not to laugh.
just held brake in. then he said "now continue" so i indicated, looked and accelerated onto the road.

just make it smooth, like dont accelerate deeply when starting up the hill cause car will stay in high revs then jerk when it changes gear

Do you still get a license thats only good for an auto if you do your restricted test in an auto?

Doing the test in an auto will only let you drive an auto unless you have a supervisor with a full licence of at least 2 years(like on a learners).

If you are in a 50 k zone you shouldn't go faster then 45k. A good tip is if your in a manual only go in to 3rd gear dont go in the fourth if your in a 50 zone that way you will feel how fast your going and it will be hard to speed without knowing. allways check your mirror try not to speck to the instructor to much unless you really need to ask a question focus on what you are doing.

Trust me I have done a defensive driving course to get my restricted and the same for my full.
passed all my license's first time and i got 95 out of 100 for my restricted and my full you need 80 points to pass.

I think they will take you on motorways if you have motorways in your area. We only have highways were i live so I didn't have to go on to motorways.

i stayed at 45kmph and got told to speed up, you have to display being able to stay at 50kmph
unless new plymouth instructors are different?

Hmm thats interesting, i did mine in an auto and was told you should take the handbrake off, then put your left foot on the brake - start slowly accelerating and release your left foot off the brake. I was told you could be failed for accelerating with the hand brake on - I will point out this is only for autos not manuals.

Also i have always found it strange that even if you do your restricted and full in an auto you get a manual license.

Should have took a driving lesson, as the tutor will teach/prepare you about what to do for your test.

I was taught by my dad but then took 2 lessons with an instructor before my test and it was extremly helpful - i imagine i would have failed without these lessons.

on restricted you can only drive an auto car if you pass with an auto. however i think this restriction is lifted once you get your full license

for my hillstart i didnt even use the handbrake and passed that section. (i looked at him marking :D )

Wait, so you basically just switched your right foot from the brake to the accelerator pedal as fast as possible ?

Oh and most pple here seem to have taken the course before the test , is the chance of passing without doing the course small ? like do they look at your record to see if you've done it and if u haven't then ......................

ok this is what i did.

-driving up a hill. "pull over please where it is safe"
-pulls over
-car stops
# right foot switches from accelerator to the brake
"when its safe, start again and continue up the hill (hill start time)
#right foot switches from brake to the accelerator
-instructor ticks the box :)

I would be surprised if many people could actually use the left foot for anything but the clutch pedal.

Everyone that ever drove a manual shift are conditioned to use the left foot HARD on the clutch, mainly because it's always used to go down all the way, unlike breaks. If you apply the same pressure on breaks your car will stop too quickly and you will be in big trouble or just not go anywhere if it's stopped.

LEFT = clutch, RIGHT = break/accelleration.
