NZtechfreak: Variable, almost always one pre- and post-work, sometimes as many as six (like Mauricio I tend to vary what I drink a little, usually flat whites, but sometimes short blacks/long blacks, and starting to play around with ristretto as well).

Off topic a little, but do you find going out for coffee a let down if you really like the coffee you make at home?

Apologies for the poor image quality, it was taken at night on a crap phone camera. I have one of these bad boys:

La Marzocco GB/5, 3 group coffee machine with Mazzer SuperJolly Grinder, loaded with Mojo Coffee

Probably worth pointing out that I am cheating as I don't have this at home, my partner and I own Tuihana Cafe in Mt Eden.

Same here, I don't usually go over the top anymore, used to do up to 10 a day but have slowed down now.

One a day before work, one in the evening and a lift plus midday.

Mine are usually mochas, flat whites or lattes, but occasionally I'll go short black if I want something quick

I'm looking at buying a new machine from Havana here in Wellington, just gotta finish off my motorbike project first :S

Have any of you guys done any courses or just been learning? I haven't done any yet, I can make a pretty good mocha/latte at home, but really want to do a weekend course

How's the weasel coffee?

I get that too, in the weekends I substitute coffee with beer, good old Tuatara Porter :)

I drink around 6 cups of coffee a day of various sizes.

I got atticted to Bosnian/Turkish coffee when I was in Bosnia for a holiday a few years back, bought a couple of coffee sets and some coffee at Sarajevo airport but was never able to make them as good as they did in Bosnia.

If you liked suggar in your coffee you had to put the cube in your mough and suck the coffee through the cube which was a different expirence.

That's me (a few years ago) and my Breville I-have-no-idea.

I buy whatever-cheap-arse-beans-are-on-sale-preground because I am one lazy momo.

I just pack the double cup full of espresso and have a couple of shots of that each morning. Sometimes I froth the milk but usually not.

It makes a surprisingly good crema and the milk frother isn't terrible though it takes ~30 seconds to get up to producing decent steam.

It is a present from my wife, she did some research and found the best model in the "coffee starter" price bracket. I reckon it's made about 5000+ shots of espresso in it's life (now at least 6 years old) and it's used every day without fail. So she picked a pretty good one.

One day I aspire to own something like the OP's machine. But this'll do me until it dies.

Audiophiles are such twits! They buy such pointless stuff: Gold plated cables, $2000 power cords. Idiots.

Usually its OK, I have a very adaptive 'sliding scale' - I'm happy enough with the best coffee I can in a particular place.

I'm usually only disappointed when the coffee is particularly bad, or worse than what I consider the low-average quality for that kind of place (be it a cafe/restaurant/whatever).

Agree completely, some arab-style coffees, and even some really strong classic Italian robusta-bean coffees, do need sugar, but its not really needed with good coffee. When people in cafe's ask me if I want sugar with my coffee I sometimes reply with "No thanks, I actually like coffee".

EDIT: @Athor: Withdrawal headaches are a known thing, so that wouldn't be unexpected. I'm fortunate in that I don't seem to get them, although I can't discount the possibility that I never go long enough between coffees to experience one... Main problem for me is that I've never developed any tolerance to the diuretic effects of caffiene...

Just remembered a unique order today - guy came in for a flat white with six (yes, six) sugars.

We also go through a ridiculous amount of soy milk, mainly ordered by guys. Go figure.

lactose intolerance? becomes more apparent when people start drinking flat whites and lattes

i have a saeco via venezia machine with a bodum burr grinder. typically using either fresh atlas beans (have roasting date printed on packet) or cafe la affare beans.

used cafe la'affare pre-ground decaf when wife was pregnant. can highly recommend this decaf coffee if you're after something that still tastes half-decent

I only get that if I change my coffee brand.

I get callouses on my feet and the soles of my feet are very thin so when I step on a small stone or slightly bump my foot into the corner of a chair or something im hoping around in terrible pain it really hurts, I mean really hurts people who know me find this hilarious. Ive had this for years and just put it down to bad feet but one day while watcing breakfast show they were interviewing this doctor speaking on the effects of drinking to much coffee (more than 3 cups per day) One of the effects is coffee over a long period slowly weakens your feet, callouses will pop up more than usual and foot pain with increase. . Its annoying but not life threatening so I weigh the consequences grit my teeth and keep on drinking coffee. : /

It doesn't affect every coffee drinker as there are more than 20 different types of effects. Heavy Coffee drinkers can wrongly be diagnosed for depression - panic attacks, talks in a hurry, shouting when talking is common, & one minute running round all happy and full of energy next minute tired and distant. Your not suffering from depression you just need to cut down on the coffee!

My previous job we were all big coffee drinkers where we could make a coffee anytime while working at our desks. I went from a 3 coffees per day to 10-12 coffee per day. Those 9 years working there were just utter madness. But the positive thing to come out of it is I could work long hours - 14hrs days were nothing as long as we had coffee available. lol

I drink coffee with milk sometimes black but never with sugar. I drink about 4 - 8 cups per day now.

Caffeine cuts the risk of skin cancer, decreases the risks of gout by 40%, Coffee was found to remove 78-90 % of the heavy metals dissolved in the tap water. Caffeine has been found also to protect against Parkinson's disease and depression.

Addicted to coffee? Damn right!
