The more I think about this the more I think that GZ members are not the target audience.

Most of us who are on here are wandering around with a connected device in our pockets and we almost shrivel up and die if we don't have internet access at our finger tips.

There are still people who use the phone book.... I am sure...

Bee: What I don't understand here is that they sold Yellow Pages and then just recreated another similar business ... seems like a big wast of money and doesnt make sense - really or is this not the case at all???

FYI: Yellow Pages was part of Telecom not NZ Post

They sensibly sold it because it is clearly in a sunset industry.

Hi - guess it's up to the business to compare their options and decide for themselves which is the best value. An advertising product - especially a voice one - is only as good as the number of people aware of it and using it. Localist launches soon on web and mobile for those businesses who aren't into print. S

It seems this morning Yellow has launched its own hyperlocal proposition, http://YellowLocal.co.nz.

Like group discouns, the hyperlocal segment is going to be overcrowded soon...

and the massive Yellow advertising in the Herald this weekend

Really directory sites are a dime a dozen eg: finda, hotfrog, nzs, yellow, yellow local, localist etc etc etc

Useful for google juice / back links I guess...

If someone goes to google (or Bing heh) and searches for your company name or a prime keyword related to your business you'd hope your company would appear before any of these directory sites.. otherwise SEOFAIL.

freitasm: Oh... Read the FAQ. They will publish "books" twice a year, and drop in people's mailboxes.

Good old competition to Yellow Pages. Blergh... Meh. Pass.

An update: Localist ditching the print part of it, going 100% digital (or as I think, yet another app company):

"Blair Glubb, Localist’s chief executive, says the service essentially launched as a review platform, but the strategic shift to a sole consumer focus on IOS and Android mobile apps centred around great things to do, eat and buy in your area"

On a side note, this week I was placing the recycle bin on the kerb and decided to check the mailbox. The Yellow Pages book found there went straight into the bin, still wrapped in the plastic bag. I didn't even bring it inside the house. What a waste of resources.

Government seriously needs to change whatever the act is that stipulates that phone books must be delivered. Pretty sure National said they had no intentions of changing it.

Same with ours.

I'm seriously considering leaving our recycling bin open behind our mailbox, with mailbox flap up, so everything that goes in the mailbox goes straight into recycling.

We have no issues with actually addressed mail as that all goes to our PO Box.

At least they are a lot smaller then they used to be. I presume they are smaller because less people are advertising in them, as the print looks the same size. This year it is going into the recycling, but next year it will be the normal bin as our council are phasing out free (ratepayer funded) recycling.

Here's a novel idea: they could just drop a USB memory key in each letterbox with the Yellow App (r).

Since they still don't have a good online strategy I presume the evolution for Yellow Pages from paper to electronic would be through Sneakernet...
