I know we are a little off Topic.. But Dumbed people are easily controlled and tricked out of the real value of their labor. Which is what my first post in this Thread is all about..
crackrdbycracku: The solution isn't actually that complicated. When I was in primary school, over 20 years ago, the goal for teacher student ratio was 1 teacher 20 students. It still is today and they haven't gotten any closer.
Actually, teacher/student ratio in NZ is somewhere in the range 1:12 - 1:15. Interesting isn't it?
You are most likely talking about class size, which is a different metric.
Its not the Teachers its the curriculum. Put it this way, if the real world is rugby then the schools teach Swimming. Swimming certainly helps you play Rugby. But only by a certain degree. Sooner or later you goto learn Rugby. Sooner would be better..

My wider point was about resourcing and that I stand by.
It isn't the teachers, it isn't the curriculum. It is the system, which is to say it is the society, which is to say it's us.
We don't see education as a priority. We don't see government as a priority. We don't see life getting better as a priority.
To be honest I don't blame us. For all our moaning we live in a wonderful first world country free of war, starvation and serious disease. We take on of the worlds great luxuries for granted, drinkable tap water. South Korea may have super fast internet, I'll take drinking from the tap.
But sure things could be better than they are. But for that to happen we would all have to collectively say "We want to things to be like X and we are willing to give up Y to make it happen for our kids or grand kids".
Ask the baby boomer you are renting your flat from if he is willing to drop the rent so you can save for a house deposit and you will see things are not going to change any time soon.
