I recently tried ordering a replacement battery from global-battery.co.nz for an HP laptop.  I assumed from the website and the domain name that it was a NZ vendor.  Came to NZ$59 for the battery and $12 for shipping

When the part arrived, the connectors were crushed.  Emailing global-battery resulted in them telling me to mail it back to them in China.  We had some back and forth about this - I knew it would be expensive to send back - but they insisted, and as a sop suggested that they might refund some of the shipping charges if the battery was indeed broken.  I gave in, and they gave me an address in China and a mobile number, and instructions to mark the package as "laptop accessories".  I did so (at a cost of around $45), but the next day I got a call from NZ Post - they had realised it contained a lithium battery, and the cost to ship that would be a total of $70 (an extra $25).  I agonised over it, but went ahead.

A couple days later, I checked the tracking info and found the package was "on hold" due to bad address info.  A call to NZ Post revealed that DHL China claimed that nobody was at the given address (it was vacant; the last tenants had moved some time prior), and after repeated calls to the mobile number nobody was answering.  In addition, US$20 in customs duty was due on the battery which someone would need to pay before the recipient could get the battery.

With a sinking feeling I emailed global-battery.co.nz.  They expressed confusion - of course the address and phone number was good.  I went back and forth with NZ Post and global-battery before finally suggesting to the vendor that maybe THEY should call DHL China and get the address sorted.  This led to a new strategy:  "If the battery can't be returned to us, how about pay 15NZD to our payapl account [...] We will resend you once get the item,IS it ok?"

Obviously being told I could have just paid them $15 instead of paying $70 shipping to NZ Post was immensely frustrating...or would have been if I had any confidence I'd see the battery.  I think they're just trying to scam more money out of me while running out the clock on filing a dispute with Paypal.

So to recap:  I ordered a battery from them for $71.  It arrived smashed; they convinced me to mail the battery back to them in China at a cost of $70, but they gave me a phony address and phone number.  On being called on it, they tried to convince me to give them another $15 in exchange for a working battery, probably in an effort to ensure I miss the deadline to file a dispute with Paypal.

These people are frauds, and should be avoided at all costs.  They seem to have a business model that revolves around sending dud merchandise, scamming people into sending additional funds, then trying to dodge the paypal dispute.
