codyc1515: Its kinda ridiculous that you get a $55 fine for nothing (ie. revenue collecting). They can lookup your drivers license based on the number and verify it just as if you had it on your person.

I always love the "revenue gathering" argument. There is a law, everyone knows what the law is and everyone knows what the penalty is.

If it's revenue gathering it's a stupidity tax.

There is absolutely no reason to have the law in the first place therefore it is indeed stupidity.

Like road users that complain they got a speeding ticket!

I have had a few speeding tickets over my time! Only one person to blame and that is the idiot speeding

Its not a $55 fine for nothing its a fine for not having your drivers icense on you as required by law!

If you don't want to give them revenue carry your icense! That Simple

It has only been law though since photo licenses came in. You didn't used to have to carry them. I have never been asked for mine. With technology these days with face recogisation etc, I can see the need for not carrying it these days. If you give them your name, they can look you upon their computer, and see the photo of who you are. I don't believe they are supposed to be a ID anyway, as that isn't their purpose, even though many companies treat them as an ID.

Sure, I agree but when the toleration is dropped from 10KM/s down to 4KM/s it is simply revenue collection. What happens when your speedo is out?

Yes as pointed out before it has your photo on it! It shows what classes of license you hold, It shows if you are a donor or not!

Too late once you've already got the fine and you didn't know previously. Also, in the beginning they said they were going to be paid for once and last a lifetime. What do you know? They changed it and it only lasts like 5/10 years now. Clearly a tax.

I do recall that you had to provide it when requested, but you had so many days to provide it to them. But I guess NZ was a very different place back then.

Well yes the license system had to change for many reasons and it was for good reasons, If you can't see those reasons you really live with your head in the clouds

You need to get this tax / revenu collecting idea out of your head!

Few issues with the old license

1) No photo
2) No basic eye testing X number of years

If your speedo is this far out it's not the cops fault!

If your speedo is this far out it's not the cops fault!

If the speedo gradually moves out 1KM each year then in the fifth you reach an additional 5KM you would then get fined.

Still not the cops fault if the speedo loses calibration

Doesn't make it the users fault either. They did not deliberately make the speedo show less than it actually was.
