Plantar fasciitis. Getting old is generally annoying but struggling to sleep or walk is a right pain in the heel.

My doctor prescribed hemorrhoid ointment for my plantar fasciitis.

Sounds like your doc took it too literally when you said the pain in your heel was a real PITA?

Companies that make announcements like "Coming Spring 2029"

Which "Spring"? Northern or Southern?

Saying "Q3" wouldn't help either. Which quarter? Calendar or financial?

I know there isn't a set date, but don't give stupid localised dates.

If it is an American company, you can probably assume they don't consider the rest of the world to exist and that if we do, we fall into line with their "standards".

But yes, agreed.

I do like how Discord has the ability to localise dates and times for the user, provided the sender puts the correct formatting around the date.  Very useful for things like MMORPG guild servers to try and coordinate group events in game with players from around the world.

Pricing. So for a few months I've been looking to replace my phone.

Looking at a Samsung phone over the past month. Noticed last week it was almost $1100 off, I thought to coincide with the iPhone Duo launch. So I thought I'll think about it over the weekend.

Price back to full retail.

The only thing I can think of was maybe it was a pricing error that day. But all the retailers had it dropped (I normally buy directly from Samsung).

Ho hum. The wait begins again I guess.

Agree it was a bit of a shock for us too. It’s now very uneconomical owning two cars and deep down knowing one of them needs to go when you tally up how many Ubers you could ride for the cost of Rego, insurance, WOF and maintenance. Then someone tells you your tyres need changing and you need two, not one. Then there’s the gas prices for 95 climbing way too fast.

Biggest problem is that the sensible choice to sell is my car, but I love driving it.

I really wish they would move the costs to the drivers license and not the car for things like ACC etc because this makes keeping many cars registered unviable for the seldom used ones. Or make it so rego can be bought on a day to day basis when they do digtal RUCs. No point me having the summer car registered all the time so its on hold all the time. Will probably miss this summer as I have a bin and landscaping stuff in the way to get it off the lawn to the driveway. Same for the ute. At least on hold is free but the 3 month minimum period for it is a total scam.

I then asked what about the thousands of oldies who have no idea how to do a firmware update, let alone have an app on their phone to do this. He replied that once a new firmware update has passed a few months without it being updated, One NZ can no longer access the modem. This is nuts if true.
So people on older firmware can’t be helped or tested by customer service remotely? What am I missing?

Using a competent company that provides the legacy voice product on the ONT instead of a router.

My partner's motorbike didn't move all winter. $467 per year. Reminds me, I should probably go fire it up.

This has annoyed me for decades, I think I first encountered it in movie trailers.

Also "Coming Summer 2026"... is that the summer we just had, or the upcoming summer? Since it crosses two years...

Where have all the good deals on uber eats and doordash gone? $27 for a burger and then a $7.99 service fee is not a viable lunch option.

They've got to make a return on all that venture capital invested over the last decade... think of the shareholders and the price of fueling a superyacht in 2026!

Media outlets who bring on analysts who make wild claims about the future but there is a distinct lack of interest in talking about their atrocious track record. For example, IDC back 1997-1998 projected in 2001 there would be $38 billion in annual sales - spoiler, it didn't. Another example, Brian Gesuale from Raymond James issued a target share price of $800 for SpaceX - something tells me that when that target isn't reached that no one in the media will be asking "whatever happened with Brian Gesuale and his $800 share price target?"

     >Cant deal with this aweful stonic for that long<

Reminds me of my daughter's description of the Saab convertible we hired in Australia some years ago ..... "Drives like a lead mattress, with a duvet on top ...".

The swapped-out Astra convertible was so much better.

However, Kia's do look nice.

Getting new windows installed and someone, possibly even Mr E, managed to traipse black sealant on to the beige carpet. Noticed after they left and there is nothing that removes it. Managed some but still a residue left. Also have a bad carpet stain from the last storm when old windows leaked.

Can anyone recommend a fantastic stain removal outfit in Wellington that is known to work magic. This is not a simple carpet cleaning job.

Have you considered claiming on your insurance? They would have approved cleaners or could replace the carpet.

Normal ain't coming back, the crazy stays.
