The Guardian - Stranded dog saved from rising tide after rescuers attach sausage to drone

21 Jan 2022

Millie, a  jack russell-whippet cross, disappeared after slipping her lead in Havant, Hampshire, and after frantic public appeals was spotted on the mudflats, in danger of being engulfed by the tide.

As the tide rose, it began to look perilous for Millie, who had defied the efforts of police, firefighters and coastguards to pluck her from treacherous mudflats.

So the rescuers had to think imaginatively, and came up with the idea of attaching a sausage to a drone and hoping the scent of the treat would tempt Millie to safety.

It worked gloriously and Millie has been reunited with her grateful owner after following the dangling sausage to higher, safer ground.

Congratulations. Do you have to work out your notice at home? That would be a smile bonus.

Iโ€™m waiting to see what the story is. Might get put on Garden Leave. Basically a month off. I manage a key account and Iโ€™m going to their direct competitor in a frontline role.

Could be a conflict of interest requiring Garden Leave. But we are short handed. Awkward.

The great fun the group of kids we took to the inflatable Waterworld on the shore yesterday, had. Launching my 25kg daughter into the atmosphere on the launch pad with my significant weight difference :)

My kids had so much fun at that on Lake Pupuke a couple of years ago - it's so much fun for so many ages

Getting back out on the mountain bike again since Xmas.  Doing some decent length rides and including some play areas like Tunnel Gully in the mix.  Remembering why I used to enjoy riding 30 years ago and wondering why I stopped for the past 20ish years.

Also finding it's a very good way to cross train for Ultra marathons.  :-)

Todays effort was 31km, up to Tunnel Gully, two loops of some fun tracks then home again.  :-D

Yeah, I felt embarrassed that initially, I couldn't get out of the water onto the ramp, when others seemed to be doing so easily. Looked like a beached whale. Partially due to having played Squash twice in the past 18 hours and having totally dead arms, and mostly because I didn't realize there was a foot hold that everyone else was using :)

As our honourable university professor used to say: "Beware of too much genius, gentlemen - better do the proving!" He was absolutely right. :-)

Radio NZ / NZ Herald - Wedding squeezed in just as NZ moved back to red alert level

today

A Waikato couple's fairytale wedding was pulled together in just a few hours following the announcement that New Zealand was headed back into the red traffic light setting.

With just a few hours' of warning, Waikato couple Stef and Danyon Cuneen were married on Sunday evening.

Vows were written on the back of real estate leaflets, a hairdresser was summoned from her hangover, and a dress was procured. ...

"I mean, she still could have got married in red, but it kind of takes away the party vibe of it.

"So we have a family chat on Facebook and she just put in there 'F*** it, let's get married today.'"

Naughty but nice  ๐Ÿ™‚

That actually sounds SO Waikato!!

Made me chuckle - I have friends that would be like that...

Ummmm, no. *They* are short handed. Not your problem. They have created the situation, not you. It wouldn't be their problem if they were reasonable/rational/sensible.

That isn't necessarily true. There are lots of reasonable, rational and sensible businesses that are short staffed right now. It's about to get much much worse.

It may not still be his problem, but having consideration for others isn't a weakness. Obviously, there are limits to how far that should or could reach.
