If you're a kid running around and you trip and fall into the sea, you're in ankle deep water. Do the same in the pool and you're in over your head. So I'm not convinced the risks are comparable

Do you actually have specialist knowledge of the sea and pool drownings? I am not suggesting you don't, but I do grow weary of armchair generals implying know-how they don't really possess. What is the basis of your observation?

When I was a kid all the neighbourhood kids used to go down to the beach for the day and muck around in the water until the family who owned the house at the top of the hill signalled it was time to come back for dinner by closing the yellow curtains, which were visible from the water.  The kids had a lot of fun, the parents had a quiet day, and no-one got hurt.

Well, apart from Billy, who drowned, but no-one liked him anyway.

Stuff headline... "FBI chief casts doubt on whether Donald Trump was really hit by a bullet"

He said it could have been shrapnel.

This kind of thing doesn't do much for me. Trump was shot. He was injured. There is no question about that. Who cares if he was hit by the bullet or shrapnel? What difference does it make?

What you're failing to consider is that it matters because the media can get more clicks and more advertising revenue if it was shrapnel! Or even the possibility of shrapnel!

I'm convinced that the "Apple Car" rumours went something like this:

Rumour site A: Let's fabricate a story about Apple making cars
Site B: We'd better republish that with our own spin on it
Site C: Same here
(Time passes)
Site B: Better fabricate a progress update
Site A: Republish
Site C: Republish
(Time passes)
Site C: Hmm, if we got a printer to make a sticker to go on a car, we can post some "exclusive" photos
Site A: Republish
Site B: Republish
(Time passes)
Site A: Fabricate a story about how interest is waning
Site B: Republish
Site C: Republish
(Time passes)
Site B: Claim that Apple has abandoned the project
Site A: Republish
Site C: Republish
(Time passes)
Site C: Run a "retrospective" on the whole fiasco
Site A: Republish
Site B: Republish

Whew!

...Site A: Actually, it turns out that the "abandonment" story published by one of our competitors isn't true...

Someone cares. Someone cares deeply. No one cares more. No one cares more deeply. No one!

Donald Trump - Truth Social: FBI Director Christopher Wray told Congress yesterday that he wasn’t sure if I was hit by shrapnel, glass, or a bullet (the FBI never even checked!), but he was sure that Crooked Joe Biden was physically and cognitively “uneventful” - Wrong! That’s why he knows nothing about the terrorists and other criminals pouring into our Country at record levels. His only focus is destroying J6 Patriots, Raiding Mar-a-Lago, and saving Radical Left Lunatics, like the ones now in D.C. burning American flags and spray painting over our great National Monuments - with zero retribution. No, it was, unfortunately, a bullet that hit my ear, and hit it hard. There was no glass, there was no shrapnel. The hospital called it a “bullet wound to the ear,” and that is what it was. No wonder the once storied FBI has lost the confidence of America!

Sorry, missed this question before - rude of me not to answer

My knowledge:

 - I have brought up two kids and have experienced what they do, including around water both in the sea and in pools

 - I have experience through being a chartered engineer of doing risk assessments and this is part of my daily work

 - I'm a qualified instructor in windsurfing and dinghy sailing, both of which qualifications involve water safety

 - I was in the Navy for just under 40 years so have a modicum of experience in the marine environment

 - I have some common sense (which seems to be lacking from some people) and can see that falling into water which is over one's head is likely to be more dangerous than falling into knee-deep water

I do hope that is sufficient qualification to post on this subject, if not perhaps a change to the FUG is required to outline minimum qualifications for posting on various topics?

I had a dead tree, about 65 cm diameter pressed against a nice fence and driveway. It had extremely big branches.

I had asked some tree companies to quote cutting it down, but no one would show up.

A unknown man appeared at my house. He said he was available to cut it down and dispose of it, $1,800, under the condition when finished I immediately paid via a bank transfer.

I was taken aback but the timing was good.

I agreed. Two large men appeared from the ute, which also surprised me. I remember saying "now?" and he said "sure."

Agriculture and fishery occupation, which includes forestry workers, is generally the most hazardous occupation in New Zealand. I can see why.

A man climbed the tree with a chainsaw, and wedged himself into a branch crotch. He was madly swinging a chainsaw one handed, and pushing the branches with the other hand as they fell away from the tree.

In moves both crazy and skillful, extremely large branches missed various breakable things and fellow workers by mere inches. Even though I was looking out a second story window, I could feel the concussion of the branches as they hit the ground.

The tree leaned dangerous, so for the final trunk, they arranged a rope at the top, and cut a wedge out of it while all workers were standing almost immediately next to the tree. At some unknown signal two of them grabbed the rope about 10 meters away and pulled hard as the last cut was made.

That was a loud crash. I'd say if that hit a concrete slab, it would have broke it.

No one was killed or injured, but jeez they were not playing it safe.

I only have the owner's cell phone number and bank account number, but I'm definitely not going to use them again.

You told them to leave the property and closed and locked the door.

I agreed.

OK, that's definitely a W/T/F...
