gzt: The boat is 'on the marina', which is a common enough expression. You could argue 'in the marina' is more accurate. Regardless if it's in or on the marina it's common in expression to extend that and say the boat is 'on' the island. The boat is not at sea nor is it 'off the island' an expression indicating something else entirely.
Maybe "common" in your world, but not with anyone around here.
