Hell or High Water.
Outstanding. My film of the year (so far).
swiss army man ... quirkyish, contrived, too long ... 6/10
I watched True Grit (2010) last night. Really enjoyed the movie. Jeff Bridges was amazing there. The story was good and the dialogues were great. Although I didn't watched True Grit (1969) and also I didn't read the novel, but I think I don't want to anymore. Cause none of them can give me the pleasure as this movie did.
Dr Strange.
Was OK, but too odd at times. Also a bit too much like Inception with superheroes in.
Hint - stay for the end credits to get a pointer for the next instalment!
Geektastic:

I'd say Inception was a bit too much like Doctor Strange but without the superheroes, given Doctor Strange came decades before Inception :P But really there was only one scene near the very beginning that was anything like Inception, and only because of the buildings folding over on themselves. The rest was absolutely nothing like it.
^and again, it's one scene, about 2 minutes worth of footage, and only because you see some buildings fold in on themselves. What they do in that scene and beyond is nothing like Inception.
There's also a nice continuity error where he has a bit of a strop and brushes his Surface Pro onto the floor - and in the next scene it is remarkably back on the table!

I have to believe that was done on purpose for some reason. I can't bring myself to accept that they'd be that stupid as to miss that in post production - it was OBVIOUS.
I'm going to trick my brain into thinking it was some kind of portent to his ability to manipulate time :D
Arrival.
Rarely has a film with aliens bored me so witless. By half way I was wishing I had brought my Kindle...
On plane rides to Europe and Back again I watched a lot of movies!
The Nice Guys - Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling. Awful. Way worse than I expected 5/10
Zootopia - Not too bad, watch it with your kids, great characters 7/10
I'll update this with the others later!
Doctor Strange (2D) 7/10
I thought it was a pretty enjoyable film, and I enjoyed it a lot more than Ant Man, the last "fringe" Marvel film I watched. But I have to disagree with those who claimed it to be an origin story on a par with Iron Man. I get the parallels that were drawn between the two, but I think Iron Man is in a league of its own. When I first saw Iron Man I watched it on DVD on a laptop while taking the train down to Wellington. When I got home, I immediately said to my wife "you have to watch this!" As good as Doctor Strange was, I didn't feel compelled to re-watch it immediately. Some of that may be due to the shine wearing off superhero films, I suppose.
Benedict Cumberbatch did a good job, and there was some nice comedic touches (his interactions with Wong, the librarian, the levitating coat, etc). Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One was great, and was far less stuffy than I was expecting. The plot was serviceable, but where it possibly suffered is the thinness of the characters overall. Going back to the Iron Man comparison, there was good character development for Tony Stark, Rhodey, Pepper Potts, Obadiah Staine, even Coulson. In Doctor Strange, the only characters I felt we even got close to knowing were Stephen Strange and The Ancient One. I'd struggle to name any of the other characters.
I'm looking forward to more films in this series, but despite the positive reviews I'm wondering if we starting to see more evidence of the superhero genre fatigue...

I can't say I was bored with Arrival; Yes it was a strange film - definitely NOT an action thriller; much more of a reflective "thinky" drama. I enjoyed it.
[Edit: 500th Post! Wahoo!]
Hacksaw Ridge 7/10
Enjoyable, despite Hollywood (aka Mel Gibson) "enhancing" an amazing story into an unbelievable story. What could have been a great movie was diminished by cliches (boot camp, recruits become tough soldiers, last *second* reprieve from court martial, etc) and impossible situations overcome (the cargo net thing). http://www.historyvshollywood.com/reelfaces/hacksaw-ridge/ confirms that these are all exaggerations of Mel Gibson's imagination.
Extremely gory scenes of people getting killed, limbs blown off, etc. I think the gore here is acceptable... war movies should be realistic about this kind of stuff.
Cinematography is great.
