Stuff front page: Scott Robertson sums up big loss of 'special' Richie Mo'unga

Wha? Click

Page: All Blacks star Richie Mo'unga signs with Japanese club Toshiba on three-year deal from 2024

Not good, not nearly as bad as I thought.

In the North Island, Waka Kotahi said traffic hotspots were likely to include State Highway 1 from Taihape to Waiouru, SH1 between Mt Messenger and Whanganui, and SH5 between Napier and Taupō.

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/481611/new-year-s-eve-traffic-where-it-will-likely-be-at-its-worst

If you're using SH1 to go that route, the extra few hours to get to and from SH1 is going to add a lot more time than any congestion will...

A story in the NZH today about Kiwi shoe polish says: “…. the shoe polish became staples in cities across the world, and at it’s peak sold 250 million tins annually in 183 countries with 24 countries around the globe.”

Huh? Multiple errors of various types there.

Not a headline, but listening to One News tonight, inform the nation that Pope Benedict XVI is the first pope to be buried by his predecessor.

RNZ does it again: "Man accused of murder after body found outside Auckland police station appears in court"

Did the man appear in court? Or the body? Maybe both?

Did the man appear in court? Or the body? Maybe both?

Maybe the body was called as a witness - at least in the eyes of the reporter?

It looks perfect to me.

NZH story today on Will and Harry: “It comes after friends of the Prince of Wales told the Sunday Times that the eldest of the two brothers is burning with anger …”.

More poor basic grammar from the Herald.

As children we did stupid/silly things to out do our friends/gain attention, obviously some people never grow up.

That's way too harsh. It's just someone sharing on TikTok like thousands do everyday. NZHerald picked it up as a fluff piece, and got lots of clicks too which helps pay for actual news. NZH have one or two of these everyday. There's no need to click on those stories if you're not interested.

Seems that NZ is being hit by a cyclone, going by the media. Cyclone Hale is a LONG way away, we have a tropical storm. But Cyclone Hale hits NZ does get more sensationalist clicks

Herald:

LIVE! Fallen tree blocks SH1!

(Also - Mrs Frieda Farley's cat Mittens was found safe and well in Gore. Mittens was behind the garden shed.)

As I have said before, nothing much happens here and these attempts to make small things sound enormously important and consequential are just silly.

"LIVE! President shot dead!" works.

"LIVE! A tree is blocking a road!" not so much.
