I've even found that explicitly asking whether it knows a given subject doesn't help.

Me: Are you able to write [particular programming language] code?
Copilot: Yes!
Me: How can I accomplish X?
Copilot: Here's the code [which is about one rung higher on the ladder than a "hello world" and makes no attempt to solve my problem].

gzt:

Prompting setup and the way the question is asked, or turning it into a series of developing questions, does make some difference to this kind of behavior. I will take a guess you are using the free product, and this is v3.5 at this time I think? Subscribers get the gpt-4 option.

gpt-4 is definitely better by default and like 3.5 better behavior can be developed with prompting.

But yes, experts agree theoretically LLMs will never be entirely immune even with the best setup although very significant improvements are possible to the behavior you're seeing in practice.

If the free product, intended as a demonstration to encourage users to subscribe, is so bad, why would anyone want to pay for a 'better' version? All it has to do is say it doesn't know something. Instead it gushes increasingly disjointed garble. That isn't much of a sales argument.

It seems like a pretty reasonable complaint. More so than many other /r/compoface stories.

Men can't bring a bag into a bar but women can. Bar has a strict dress code but can't articulate it. This applies in Christchurch but other cities don't enforce it.

Vote with your feet. Why would anyone want to go to such a place? Groucho Marx famously quipped that he would not want to be a member of any club that would have someone like him. In similar fashion, anyone allowed into a place like this would probably not be someone I would want to be near.

"I've just spent two hours trying 187 different ways of prompting the LLM to get it to give me a reply that isn't obviously incorrect.  Gosh, these things are so smart!".

As the old adage goes, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is.

Aww, I saw the first few pages but didn't subscribe to updates and now it's over :(

Did one of those posts suggest that MSD was buying connections from them? I find that hard to believe and concerning.

It's not over yet. I've sent a strongly worded email with a compromise. His acceptance of the terms dictates if that thread is unlocked or not. Either way I will post an update the later today or tomorrow.

Organised team sports at a special needs school.  One of the teachers is a tiger dad whose kids have to play every sport known to man, so if his kids can do it then kids with Down's syndrome, autism, etc, should be able to as well.

Palmerston North hospital jumping and doubling down on the speak English only bandwagon.

All it’s going to do is embolden racist bigots to attack foreign language speakers in public

Everyone was ok with this before until a particular politician started talking bullshit about languages and race relations.

No different than America. Everyone was ok before until hate politics took hold and normalised the bullshitery these bigots bring.

Not helping either is North Shore Hospital kowtowing to demands for non-Asian medical staff. The hate plague - including but not limited to Trumpism - is a more invasive pest than M.bovis & COVID.

I'm detecting vibes of this...
