Moon Haven: Really struggling to get past episode 2.
The Lincoln Lawyer: Nice watch, certainly not up to the standards of The Good Wife/Fight, Raising the Bar, The Practise. But the extras on "The Lincoln Lawyer", talk about bad acting :) I'll give it a 2nd season & hopefully the writing improves.

The Old Man on Disney+ really enjoying it. Kind of wished I came to it in a few weeks time as it's one of those that drops an episode a week and I'd like to binge it.
Just watched the first two episodes, and I am impressed. The action comes across as realistic — that is to say they make it almost believable that a 72 year old Jeff Bridges could could prevail in a fist fight with several 30 year old CIA bad guys (not all at the same time). The timeline jumps about a bit, but it's well done, and between the casting director and makeup person, the younger versions of Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow are totally recognisable making it easy to follow. The character Dan Chase (played by Bridges) is about as hard arse a movie/TV character as I can remember, and we are led to believe he has no limits.

I think you may have just convinced me to add this to my watchlist.

Well, it was worth holding off until they sorted the subtitles out! (Scenes of many minutes in length spoken in an Afghani language with no subtitles made for interesting viewing.) But, yeah, totally worthwhile, and like others above we're hanging out for the latest episode to drop.
As Stu said in the other thread, it seems to becoming common nowadays. I am never quite sure if it's me not getting the set up right, or if there really are no subtitles. The last TV series I had the same problem was Invasion with the Japanese segments. That series turned out to be so appallingly bad, I flicked through most of it looking for the school kid bits, because their story was somewhat watchable. Every action scene from the entire series must be in the 30 second trailer on IMDB — I think that trailer must be a breach of the NZ Fair Trading Act for false or misleading advertising! I have no idea how it managed to score 5.9 on IMDB because I have never seen so many reviews score 1/10 There was a warning from someone in this thread that I wish I'd heeded. I can also remember a lot of unsubtitled Russian and Spanish in Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan (on Prime).
Hey, I wonder if one of those interpreting cell phone apps would work? I think I might try that.

Watched The Old Man and was impressed actually.
For the "Scenes of many minutes in length spoken in an Afghani language with no subtitles made for interesting viewing." we usually watch TV with subtitles on (just to be sure that we don't miss anything as sometimes dialogue sound is muffled with the current crappy sound engineering producers seem to apply). When the subtitle is on the pasthu translation appears like any other subtitle.

Sure, that's been the case for the last few days; as per that other thread, and as I and others will attest to, prior to that those very subtitles weren't there! I wasn't the first to lodge a complaint with Disney about this, and it's good to see that they got onto sorting it fairly quickly.
Really enjoyed E5 this week; at some level, the more old-fashioned method Disney employs of dropping episodes weekly does result in building anticipation, compared to the binge-watching encouraged by Netflix's approach of dropping the whole series at once.
The Sandman on Netflix.
As a fan of the comics I was pretty apprehensive about this. Grumblings online about gender and race swapping had me somewhat concerned it would be woked up beyond recognition. So let me get that out of the way first. There was A LOT of gender and race swapping. However; even though I felt much of it was unnecessary (especially when adapting a visual medium like a comic), I didn't feel like it impacted or substantially changed the narrative of the story. I did think the casting of Gwendoline Christie as Lucifer was a bit much though (maybe they were going for androgenous, but it just didn't work for me). On a similar theme, it's been a while since I read the comics but I don't remember so many relationships/interactions being gay (I remember there were some). I suspect this was amped up for "diversity and inclusion". I have no problem with gay relationships being portrayed in media, but it did feel a bit out of proportion. But, once again, it didn't really impact the narrative one way or the other. Undoubtedly some will be critical of these changes, but for the most part they were fine.
Story-wise I felt it was a rather faithful adaptation and really enjoyed it. Casting was good all around (with the exception of Gwendoline Christie), and the acting was good. The camera style was a little off-putting at first, but I actually started to really like it by the 2nd or 3rd episode. Visually it was very good, the only visual creative change I actively disliked (and I'll sound like a broken record) was the portrayal of Lucifer - in addition to the casting misstep, they changed the appearance of Lucifer's wings to demon-like leathery wings instead of the white feathered angelic wings of the comics.
Because it follows the story beats of the comic quite closely, those unfamiliar with the source material may feel like the season is a bit disjointed as it did a couple of the early arcs plus a couple of essentially stand-alone episodes based on single issue stories. As a fan of the comics I appreciated this, but it may not be for everyone.
I watched the mon non-cerebral series I have ever seen.
Future Man on Neon. It follows the exploits of Josh Futturman (Future Man) who is an erstwhile janitor, gamer and moron, who becomes embroiled in a future war, as it turns out the game he plays is actually a training video (kind of).
It's pretty rubbish, but also weirdly compelling. It has juvenile and somewhat stoner-style humour, but that's not surprising as Seth Rogan is an Executive Producer.
What I can't believe is that it made it through 3 seasons. I'm on season 1 and starting to struggle.

In these cold wintery times had a bit of a browse through the last 10-15 pages looking for new shows to watch. Best things I've watched in 2022 so far would include The Ipcress File, Slow Horses, Bosch:Legacy, Sherwood and the always-good For All Mankind. Shows I thought were a solid watch include The Old Man, Black Bird, Raised By Wolves, Obi Wan Kenobi, Pistol, Strange New Worlds, The Lincoln Lawyer and Trigger Point.
One show I didn't see mentioned, though I may have missed it during my scrolling, is The Lazarus Project on Neon. A sci-fi/time travel story, a lot of which is told in flash-back, was a really enjoyable watch. Excellent cast all round, including The Musketeer's Tom Burke, Men Behaving Badly's Caroline Quentin, and the wonderful Charly Clive with her infectious smile! Thought the premise was an interesting idea, worth a look if you haven't already done so.

Loved it !
Finally some intelligent fantasy instead of the usual Marvel crapola.
Wasn't a big fan of the comics, actually liked Christie as Lucifer (akin to casting Tilda Swinton as Gabriel in the Constantine film).
Many thought the squeezed photography was a fault but it was a deliberate decision

Top casting, Patton Oswalt and David Thewliss were great.

I'm about 3 episodes into the Lazarus project currently. Enjoying but struggling at times to keep up with the story with the flash backs etc.... Will persevere as I'm sure it will all makes sense in the end.

Tilda Swinton would have been a much better choice for this series if they were intent on casting a woman. The look of comics version was based on David Bowie, which is why I assumed they were going for androgenous in the show. Christie is simply a large woman, but doesn't look particularly androgenous. In addition I don't think that the character requires the large physical stature that Christie has. But, hey, what do I know?
To get through the entire run of the comics they'll need 5 seasons. I hope they make it, but I think it might be a bit cerebral for a general audience.
Extraordinary Attorney Woo. Netflix. A South Korean drama/comedy series that is one of the best shows i have seen in a while. It has a rating of 9.1 on IMDB and that is well deserved. i i give it a 10. And if nothing else you will learn everything about Whales you didnt know.
Common sense is not as common as you think.
Severance - Apple TV+
Just Watch It!
And stay to the last episode. One of the best end of season episodes I have ever seen :)
