Something broke there.

You know what will fix it? more guns, 2 men stationed in each and every school with guns.

caffynz: I didn't think you could check out books for other people as the hold is under their name.

I used to get books for a (bedridden) neighbour but it was some years ago and done on autopilot so I can't remember what it involved.  I don't remember any problems with it though.

I heard a Jewish comedian joke that "we really don't need this right now."

Explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, study finds: NBC News

The 15th-century explorer Christopher Columbus was a Sephardic Jew from Western Europe, Spanish scientists said on Saturday, after using DNA analysis to tackle a centuries-old mystery.

Several countries have argued over the origins and the final burial place of the divisive figure who led Spanish-funded expeditions from the 1490s onward, opening the way for the European conquest of the Americas.

Many historians have questioned the traditional theory that Columbus came from Genoa, Italy. Other theories range from him being a Spanish Jew or a Greek, to Basque, Portuguese or British.
...
In DNA there are traits compatible with Jewish origin.

I'd take that with a significant grain of salt.  Spain at that time was busy pogromming and genociding its Jews out of existence, so why would the very monarchs that created the Edict of Expulsion simultaneously fund and and support an expedition headed by a Jew?  It'd be political suicide.

As I understand it, the only reason we now know he was gnetically a Jew is from DNA testing.  He is unlikely to have ever told anyone in Spain for obvious reasons, and everyone seems to have assumed he was from Genoa and Italian.  It is even possible that he did not know he was genetically Jewish - that appears to have been the case with Eva Braun (Hitler's mistress).  Like Eva Braun, he may also not have been curturally Jewish.

We appear to have the same dining room chandelier - not sure if that's a good or a bad thing... We don't have the gold leaf/gold paint on the ceiling though

I still can't shake the vibes of the sort of establishment that's not allowed to be sited within 250m of a school or church...

Close but no cigar.

True style isn’t showy or tacky, but timeless and sophisticated. It's quality over ostentation.

Most bizarre thing I seen around here in 30+ years of living here!

Light green RAV4 SUV flies into the Street, does U Turn next door, the front passenger bails at high speed,

running down the Street while the vehicle is still moving, then on the next part of the maneuver the rear passenger does the same thing!

Vehicle turns again with the passenger door still open, the pursues them at high speed! (Door closed during turning)

Really really bizarre to see in real time! (105 Notified)
