Thats how it used to be a few years back with many local sites requesting a landline number as a compulsory field.

What annoys me is retailers that insist on taking a phone number of any type when selling me something online. GTFO, I am buying online I dont want to talk to you.

Speaking as someone that has been doing online retailing since 2002: We ask for a phone number so we can easily contact a customer if there are any problems with the order. We never used it to do phone marketing towards the customer.

Its saved the online stores and the customers a lot of grief over the years to easily be able to get in contact with a customer.

Tony Veitch on The Afterguard.

I'm supposed to respect my elders, but it's getting harder and harder for me to find one now.

Having to go back and edit each time I post on GZ about twice on average because I'm such a hopeless typist.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

Frigging mobile on-screen keyboards make it even harder to type...

To extend that - the IT 'revolution' for putting keyboards on my desk and therefore indirectly removing the secretaries from offices and enforcing that work onto the rest of us, regardless of our typing skill or the fact that it means we have less time to do what we are actually hired to do...

You just miss having a secretary to boss around. Used to be a major component of the male ego toolbox.

As someone who can touch type at a reasonable speed, that's just another reason why I don't like mobile phones. Give me a real keyboard any day.

Interestingly, the majority in my workplace were male - your argument holds no water here.

That must be exhausting. Is there nothing at all to do about it?
