Dunkirk - Masterful storytelling with great music. I don't think a rating would do justice to this movie.

Baby Driver - The most fun I have had watching a movie in the last couple of years. Highly recommended. 9/10

Overall a good weekend at the cinemas.

I enjoyed Alien Covenant as the sequel to Prometheus.  As an Alien film it missed the mark.

Watched this week:

Going in Style (2017) Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine & Alan Arkin. 4½/5. The main actors walked their way through it. These days they certainly do not need the money (unless for alimony) so they must just do it for fun and for something to do in their 80's.

Ghost in the Shell (2017) Scarlett Johansson. Quite disappointed. 3/5. Very much shades of Blade Runner in set styles. I saw the original 1995 anime one that was far better.

"Your Name" (君の名は), a Japanese anime.

It's a bit hard to review as it's the sort of movie where you're better off knowing next-to-nothing about it before seeing it. The basic synopsis is that it's about a teenage boy and girl that have never met, living in different parts of the country, who mysteriously start switching bodies. Every time they wake up they have a ~50:50 chance of being the other person. The next day they're back to normal... with no memory of the previous day other than a niggling feeling that something's wrong.

Well worth a watch.

Edit: Does anyone know a local source for it? I imported the Japanese Blu-ray but I can't expect everyone to do that!

Some of Alien Covenant was great. The Fiordland location was creepy and sinister. It had some interesting scenes but over all it was a disappointment. Ridley ain't what he used to be.

Atomic Blonde - I found it rather boring. The fights were well choreographed and the soundtrack was good, but the characters were uninteresting and the plot didn't make a lot of sense. Coming from the co-director of John Wick I was expecting this to be a lot of fun, but it really wasn't. 5/10

Okja - Certainly not for the kiddies. Tonally it's a little uneven, but I actually quite enjoyed it. 7/10

Ghost in the Shell. It was an OK action flick, nothing I'd write home about. Seemed like an Excuse to put Scarlett in extremely tight fitting clothing (not that I am complaining).  6.5/10

Atomic Blonde - Good fight scenes but without a good story and screenplay it was just visual noise. I got bored and almost fell asleep 3/10

Just recently saw this movie, while I thought it was good and I and the music added to the feel! I thought the attention to detail on the equipment was very good and also the age of the soldiers. The RAF scenes were good as well.

For me though, my grandfather was in the BEF (aged 22) and and after 21st of May ‘went off the beach’ at Ostend after first trying at Nieupoort - which is half way along the beach. There were a couple of scenes that were in the movie that he had talked about as his experience - one was standing in the sea for a long time, the other was getting tea and an apple on the ship and a sandwich back in England. Also, mentioned in the movie was their return back to base at Woking where he was originally based.

No doubt trying to cash in on the success of John Wick. The trailer looked good, but I suspected it was probably all the best bits and that there would be little substance outside of the action.

(that said, I loved John Wick and am keen as to see the second instalment).

Interesting, I enjoyed this movie -  8/10 for me. I agree the plot was average, but liked I liked the soundtrack as well. Flight scenes were very good.
