kingdragonfly: Kraft Heinz must face Mac & Cheese lawsuit, judge rules: Reuters

A US federal judge said Kraft Heinz must face a proposed nationwide class action alleging that it defrauded consumers by claiming its Kraft macaroni and cheese, one of its best-known products, contains no artificial preservatives.

In a decision on Wednesday, the judge said consumers plausibly alleged that Kraft Mac & Cheese contained a synthetic form of citric acid that differed from the natural variety, and also contained sodium phosphates.

The judge said the plaintiffs specifically alleged that the ingredients functioned as preservatives, making Kraft Heinz's claim of "No Artificial Flavors, Preservatives or Dyes" on labels false, and cited academic studies and U.S. Food and Drug Administration guidance to support their case.

Somehow I ended up being given a box of this to eat one time. It was horrendous. Tasted absolutely nothing like macaroni cheese. I cannot believe people actually consume this except in the most dire of circumstances.

I actually bought some once, just to see what all the fuss was about. Never again.

I have no compulsion to try the "Coke Oreo" biscuits either!

Is patriotic duty of every Russian to make more soldiers to die in Vladimir Vladimirovich's wars!

I remember being given a tube of cheese, like a toothpaste tube, and it was absolutely YUK, did not taste like any cheese I know of.

They also can not make a decent cup of coffee either. Just looking at Starbucks makes me want to throw up.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

FineWine: I remember being given a tube of cheese, like a toothpaste tube, and it was obsoletely YUK, did not taste like any cheese I know of.

I once got to talk to a US cheese importer and he pointed out how difficult it was to sell anything other than the most bland, tasteless cheese to most of the US.  If it (cheese) has any kind of flavour, most people won't buy it.

Which explained why, as I progressed in desperation from cheddar to strong cheddar to extra strong cheddar at the local supermarket I couldn't detect any difference between them, they all tasted like plastic paste.

It sounds a bit like former Aussie Treasurer Peter Costello's clarion call for Australia's women to have "one for the husband, one for the wife, and one for the country."

"I regret to say that we of the F.B.I. are powerless to act in cases of oral-genital intimacy, unless it has in some way obstructed interstate commerce." — J. Edgar Hoover

"Create a society that values material things above all else. Strip it of industry. Raise taxes for the poor and reduce them for the rich and for corporations. Prop up failed financial institutions with public money. Ask for more tax, while vastly reducing public services. Put adverts everywhere, regardless of people's ability to afford the things they advertise. Allow the cost of food and housing to eclipse people's ability to pay for them. Light blue touch paper." — Andrew Maxwell

I think a better question would by "why are the nutters who push this sort of stuff mostly men"?  Most of the world's problems, and in particular the really big ones, are caused by too many people consuming/competing for too few resources, and then someone like Costello comes along and says it's not bad enough yet, we need to add even more people.

It's less an overpopulation issue, and more of an overconsumption issue. Climate deniers are increasingly accepting that climate change is happening... only to blame it on Global South overpopulation.

Climate denial is waning on the right. What’s replacing it might be just as scary

There's definitely overpopulation in there, it's estimated that the population the earth can sustainably support is less than half of what it currently is (under 4 billion vs. 8 billion).  I'm not sure what the scaling is, i.e. is twice the supportable population twice as bad, ten times as bad, or a thousand times as bad?

Some of that is dubious and probably better disputed in one of the politics topics. I trust you won't mind if I take it over there.
