Oh! That's exciting!!! Hopefully doesn't take long to get my cert after that and start the passport application process.

On that note, how long does it take to get a passport from time of application?

Just a heads up which might save some of you time.

If you have resided in another country for more than 12 consecutive months, while holding New Zealand residency, during the previous 4 to 12 years, the Department will require you to obtain a police clearance from that Country.

I applied on Monday, I paid for an expedited service as going away for work. It came today...so 4 working days! I'd say their normal service is running to time most likely. Something like 10 working days.

The fact that in a pandemic when the Government is demanding people be more flexible than you'd have any right to expect under normal circumstances, the fact that IMZ will not move an inch to help struggling people, by making small and insignificant changes to their policies such as issuing a temporary working visa whilst additional documentation is sourced internationally, really does my head in.

Absolutely no wiggle room whatsoever.

What country was that from? If Australia can you select a quicker postage time?

Sent in the application for my English Wife this week. Annoying it will take a year but I guess there isn’t anything she can’t do on her permanent residence.

In which case, why bother with citizenship out of interest?

My mother has been here as a PR for over 40 years and there seemed to be little point to becoming a citizen.

She can't run for parliament 😜

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

For us, it was the inability or lack of effort that the Govt put into helping stranded NZ PR's overseas, when the pandemic struck.

It made us realise that without Citizenship, we really aren't NZers, despite being here since the early 70's as children (my wife and I have similar arrival dates and ages). Our kids are born and bred here, so are citizens by birth and get all the rights and privileges that comes with.

If you want to travel anytime soon, you won't get help in any way from the NZ Govt if you're not a Citizen - they made that really clear when asked point blank a while ago as people were stranded in AU.

I want to be able to go on a holiday some time in the next year or two - hence we applied.

Agreed, in a uncertain world its best to have the protection of citizenship for the sake of $470. We also don't know what rules will change in the future as well.

Rmani:

Jr11: Can you apply for your passport after 26/11/21?? Or do u have to wait to get the certificate in the courier??

Ok, I started with the passport application. It asks for a Citizenship certificate number, so have to wait until it comes home.

My certificate was due to be printed yesterday but I already submitted my passport application yesterday. If you have a closer look, the certificate number is not compulsory to fill. You just need to fill your first and last name… so I just applied without waiting for my certificate to arrive. Will let you know how it goes…

I guess this makes sense as passport and citizenship are both under DIA… I guess they could just get information from each other since the certificate has been printed?
