Up there with the announcement on the Wairarapa train that, at one station, passengers should disembark from the North end of the train or the South end of the train (depending on direction of travel). So, we are supposed to carry a compass?

What's wrong with 'front of the train' or 'back of the train'?!

It's always the North end of the train as that is where the baggage car is so for those stations with short platforms they can always unload bags. But yes - the message should change dependant on your direction of travel.

Christchurch Citycare for towing and impounding a perfectly legally parked car as it was "in the way" of road works - Citycare forgot to put out signs that parking in the area would be closed later in the day.

Bonus brickbat for Chch City Council, who when faced with this situation would normally "relocate" cars to the nearest council car park and leave a notice up where the cars had been towed. Parking is such a shambles, there were no available car parks - so the towies took it to their lock-up yard which closed at 5:00pm.

Because people dont tie them down, and full hottubs tend to be too heavy to relocate themselves.

The other one a friend has had a few times is plastic outdoor furniture turn up, Legs on the tables busted up so no point keeping them.

Recently JetStar caused my AirNZ flight to run late.

While it was annoying, I have to acknowledge JetStar's excellence in the field of disrupting travel plans. They went next level by stuffing up the travel plans of another airline's customers.

...and in any event it doesnt seem to actually make any difference which way you change it - the temperature stays the same AND they are surprisingly noisy when you are trying to sleep!

Good points. Although, luckily for me the noise from the party in the next door room drowned out the fridge hum.

I managed to determine that 5 was the coldest on this fridge as the water drops in the freezer compartment froze over.

Your comment about the temperature remaining the same reminds me of trying to find a cold can of fizzy in London during summer. There are drink vendors everywhere, tube stations , on the street , 'dairies', booths etc. None of their fridges work... they might as well use bookcases as their fridges are clearly for aesthetics only.

The secret is to buy fizz from WH Smiths bookstores. Always super cold.

Ahh, this happened to me just 3 months ago..... couldn't find the multimeter anywhere..... so , I buy a new $20 cheapo from bunnings..... and 2 weeks later the lost one turns up. Doh! Even worse, it was in the box I searched. Damn my eyes.

@Fred99 please tell me the car owner wasn't expected to pay the towing firm anything.

Confirmed. I did expect that he might have to pay when I took him to pick up the car the next day, then try to recover it from council, but seems that Citycare has an account with the towies.

But why isn't it the front or the back? For a start, technically the train doesn't run North/South.
