The Mummy - Tom Cruise.

It's difficult to describe how bad this movie actually is. I thought Jupiter Ascending was the worst movie I had seen in living memory but this might top it.

1/10 (it should be zero but you never know, something worse might come along).

Oh he is so bad. By the way his real name is: Thomas Cruise Mapother IV, age 55 (1962) Former Franciscan seminary student in his early teens. Should have stuck to religion he would of packed them in. Oh sorry he does with the book of the sci-fi author: L. Ron Hubbard.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

I enjoyed what I saw of It, Fire alarm went off half way through so still need to see the 2nd half. The added gore was a nice touch!

True Romance 8/10 Still an excellent movie with a great script from Tarantino.

The Skeleton Key 7/10 A half decent (if a little lightweight) horror story set in the deep south of the USA. Reasonably atmospheric.

The Descent 7/10 A claustrophobic horror movie set around a group who go caving where they shouldn't. Plenty of gore in this one.

The scene with Dennis Hopper and Christopher Walken is one of my all time favourite movie scenes ... "can I have that Chesterfield now?"

Baby Driver. Wow. So great.

Loved how the action was choreographed with the soundtrack almost like a musical. Great cast, direction, and writing. The car chases were unreal. It will tolerate many re-watches I reckon!

Hitmans Bodyguard - 7/10 for just a plain load of over-the-top action and lots of cheesy fun. Park your brain at the door and enjoy, I certainly did.

Baby Driver - 9/10 for a whole lot more than I expected. Classy, different, great driving action, some pretty slick acting in places, and an award winning soundtrack. Definitely on the re-watch list.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Cripes I hop I look that good when I'm 55. I don't think he's a bad actor - he as good in Edge of Tomorrow and Oblivion, not so good in Rock of Ages, and I try and ignore an actors personal lives.

I'm not a fan of scientology (I just don't get any new religion) but neither am I of christianity but I don't hold that against those who choose to believe (and history shows christians has done far worse than any scientologist) . Each to their own. Quite surprising who turns up in this list:

By back on the movie subject:

The Hitman's Bodyguard - 6/10 - standard buddy action film. SLJ was SLJ, Ryan Reynolds was Ryan Reynolds.

Transformers - latest one. 0/10. Bad, real bad. Makes the other ones look like masterpieces. (Spoilers follow ...................TRF (basically US military) were the bad guys, Decepticons were the bad guys, Quintessa was the big baddie, Optimus was the bad guy, Decepticons go away (must have nodded off somewhere), Optimus become good again, TRF become good. Big battle and lots of running. No one dies (or do they? I seem to have blocked large portions from my memory). At last they kept the kids to a minimum.

I've got nothing against Tom Cruise either. I like both Edge Of Tomorrow and Oblivion and have watched them a few times now.

And there's probably nobody better for the Mission Impossible franchise than TC.

His personal views, although somewhat strange, don't come in to it.

I've watched this film many times (and "reviewed" it at least once or twice here), but I have to say it's still a great film 20 years later. I know lots of people trashed it (and still do), but there's a lot more going on than just a cheesy flick about space marines killing bugs. Re-watching it in the Trump era made it feel all the more topical, watching a pseudo-fascist society playing out a white supremacist allegory was chilling. I read an article recently that interviewed Paul Verhoeven about the making of the film, and he was asked about the rumours that he deliberately hired "bad" actors to accentuate the satire of the story, but he denied that and admitted that they were hired for their looks, to echo the Aryan look of the Nazi propaganda films of Leni Riefenstahl. While the set design and effects are now laughably dated, I still love rewatching this film.

Because of this review I decided to watch it again. Watched it at release 20 years ago and again now. The nationalism vibe is very strong and wife mentioned "Is this a spoof? The acting is so bad"

It ranks up there as one of the worst ever book to film adaptions ever made. As a lifelong fan of the book and Heinlein in general it still pisses me off that Paul Verhoeven hasn't been taken out back and shot for this travesty.

There's a pretty accurate playlist on Apple Music. There's the official soundtrack too but most of the tracks aren't licensed for NZ on that soundtrack ... but can be sourced separately hence the playlist.

Life 7/10. Jake Gyllenhall sci-fi which I found more engaging on second viewing. Echoes of Alien.

Don't Breathe 7.5/10. Lowish budget horror movie but quite effective. Be careful who's house you try to rob.

A Cure For Wellness 6/10. A slightly odd mild horror film from Gore Verbinski (Pirates of the Caribbean). A harmless way to spend a couple of hours.
