k1w1k1d:

I could just imagine the reaction if you went up to a "dodgy" looking tow truck driver and asked for his ID.

This part was weird.

“If you see a tow truck without any distinguishing features towing cars, please call Police immediately,” said Kimber.

So all they have to do is put a feature on it. Before that it said they were unmarked. So a little time with at cricut and putting "ed's efficiant towing service" on the side with some numbers etc and you are all good to go towing cars I guess.

freitasm: The CEO can't even fit properly on those seats. Doesn't he have any shame?

I doubletaked that picture several times. Are those domestic flight seats? Check picture caption.

It says 7-8-7. I for one, commend Air NZ's new climate friendly seating policy.

I suggest the new seating arrangement is renamed Family Comfort Climate Saver because travelers will closely related for the duration of the flight.

PolicyGuy: Air NZ's decision to follow the herd and equip their 787s with 9-abreast seats in economy (originally designed for 8-abreast, ANA still run them like that), and their 777s with 10-abreast (originally designed for 9-abreast) was an enthusiastic embrace of the general enshitification of back-of-the-aircraft travel.

Unfortunately when they ordered Dreamliners they were calling on 2Degrees and what they heard was "Sardineliners".

Regarding the Special Supercar License, or "U Class" license, introduced in South Australia starting this month,

For the car's traction control, it does mention driving on public roads. It does not exempt track use specifically, but I guess that's implied.

There no production off-road vehicle that produces enough HP to require the license, so the "I turned off my traction control for mud/snow" excuse won't work. (The closest off-road vehicles is Jeep Trackhawk $140K AUD, 293 hp/ton & Lamborghini Urus $400K AUD 295 hp/ton)

I don't know how much this license is going to accomplish. There is already a prohibition of burnouts on public roads across Australia and unsafe driving laws (even if it does vary by state).

A better law than a special license would forbid turning off traction control on public roads, unless driving in deep snow or mud, or a stuck vehicle. It could specifically exclude off-road, the track or pre-sanctioned public events.

Lambo Driver First To Be Fined For Not Having Special ‘Supercar’ License In Australia: Car Scoops

Motorists in South Australia need a special license for cars with over 276 kW (370 hp) per tonne.

Drivers need to complete an online course and a test to be certified to drive high-performance vehicles.

Locals can also be fined AU$ 5,000 (~$3,200) for tuning off a car’s traction control system.

US Healthcare: Let's keep the profits, use AI to decline claims to deflect responsibility, but instead remove pictures of grinning obscenely wealthy ghouls and parasites from the company websites. We must protect the stock-holders after all.

The company social media post announcing the CEO UnitedHealthcare death generated 65,000 laughing emoji responses, and growing.

Several insurance companies pulled down executive biography webpages after Brian Thompson killing: The Independent

Days after the CEO of UnitedHealthcare was killed in Manhattan, major health insurance companies are removing information about their top executives from their websites.

Police are still searching for the gunman who fatally shot Brian Thompson near the New York Hilton Midtown early Wednesday morning in what appeared to be a targeted killing.

In the aftermath of the deadly shooting, UnitedHealthcare took down its “leadership” page, WebArchive shows, and the page once containing biographies about its executives now bounces to the insurance company’s homepage with no information about those running the company.

@msukiwi; as an option for you to consider:

2Degrees WiFi calling worked well for me from the US last year. I had my phone in Flight Mode the entire time, and just turned wifi on when required. There were sufficient publically available WiFi connections in most locations it wasn't a major issue - even in Belize [Central America].

Consider a 2nd handset with a local SIM [TMobile, perhaps] with, say, 10Gb data to use as a private hotspot for the main phone, so you don't need to worry about finding a local WiFi. [I think a local SIM cost us around $50 NZD, and was valid for 30 days]; much cheaper.

In USA, no ID needed "Yes, as long as your phone is compatible with eSIM and is unlocked. Right now eSIM is available on select Apple and Google phones."

https://www.mintmobile.com/help/how-do-i-get-mint-esim/

In Canada, ID is needed. They also support eSims: "Most new phones can use eSIMs, such as
  • the iPhone XR (or newer, Apple iPhone SE $850)

  • the Samsung Galaxy S20 (or newer, Samsung Galaxy S22 $800. Refurbished S20 much cheaper)"

Ronny Chieng had a good take on this on the Daily Show, "Police have narrowed the suspects down to people who hate their HMO and who own a gun".

One roaming is $19 per week, depending on whether it's worth porting the number across and back again for a four week stay.

What sort of prompt did they have to use to get an AI to generate that?
