MikeB4: That political discussions always and inevitably turn to personal attacks and general abuse. There is no need for it.

Of course not.  Politicians would never behave like that.

Many politicians behave more civil than a lot of non politicians do. Some seem to think that political discussions or someone holding an opposing political view is licence to throw manners and respect out the window.

What I see is many many negatives, and bugger all positives. Present company excepted. The general consensus is that politicians sit in the same bucket as car salesmen. real estate agents, and HDMI/extended warranty beggars at the big boys stores. Id like to be one, make a difference. But a few bad nectarines don't make a bad batch. Its bugger all salary for a 365 day commitment.

Idiot drivers that don't drive right up to the line at traffic lights, so don't trigger the road sensors.

Takes ages for the lights to change.

Today:

I saw a video the other day of someone that had stopped like that. A pedestrian attempting to cross jumped up and walked across the bonnet. Subsequent pedestrians did the same. The car then reversed into the proper position.

I was in a traffic jam at i10 near Houston years ago, saw just that!

Athlonite:

Not just LED's but also HID and badly aligned normal headlights aswell makes you wonder where they're getting their WOF's from and does the place actually do a proper job of testing the headlight position or are they just checking that they turn on and off,  on low beam the center of the light pool on the road should be no more than 25 feet in front of the car on dip

Do you get your advice from VTNZ Thorndon Quay? They keep winding my lights down completely ignoring the performance requirement to illuminate at least 50m of road. Having the centre of the light pool 8m in front of the car is dangerous.

From the warrant testing manual reasons to fail headlamps

"16. When the dipped-beam headlamps are switched on (with wheels pointing straight ahead):

e) the centreline of the light beam is too far to the left or slopes down too far so that the headlamp is no longer capable of illuminating the road at least 50m ahead (Figure 4-1-1), or"

Council planning departments.

Specifically, our local one. Issue consent to a design, change staff, decide previous staff got it wrong, attempt to change consented design after the fact at my expense.

Their incompetence not my problem - however, their bottomless pit of ratepayer's cash to pay legal bills effectively means I have no choice other than to cover for their incompetence at my expense. Grrrrrrr 'kin cowboy amateurs.

I'd not call that a 'small thing that annoys'!

I'd also say it's not that uncommon, unfortunately. Seems that it comes down to which inspector you get on the day. In our case, we had a permitted design for our reno that involved among a lot of bigger obs, pulling off some 60 year old drywall and replacing it with new gib.

At the pre-line inspection the inspector failed it because there was no bracing plan. FFS the house has been standing there for 60 years with the crappy old gib why would be need to calculate bracing for the new gib? So back to the architect and spend yet more money to make another problem go away.

And people wonder why there aren't enough houses getting built.

How about a system that allows a double post to be made of identical words within a few seconds of each other?

If I was Mike, I'd be seriously starting to doubt myself after being dropped and left all the time.
