Wife and I have started a few things lately and not managed to engage with them, but Marvel's Cloak and Dagger seems to be just about hitting the spot at the moment.

4 eps in and it's starting to make sense.

Also started watching Carnival Row season 2 on Prime. As good as season 1. I am enjoying it.

Agent Elvis on Netflix, absolutely mental! Reminds me of a slightly less-disgusting Archer.

rugrat:

networkn: It's all good I found another way to watch it and saw 3 episodes last night. If you like AU content I can highly recommend 5 Bedrooms.

TVNZ has Colin from accounts on demand.

I enjoyed it, but felt the end was a bit flat.

I'm three episodes into The Diplomat and really unsure what to make of it.  It's badged as a drama/thriller, with Keri Russell playing an ex-intelligence officer who was to be posted to Kabul as US Ambassador but who instead is parachuted in as US Ambassador to the UK, and is immediately embroiled in an international incident involving an attack on a British ship by suspected Iranian agents.  The premise seemed interesting enough - I have a lot of time for Keri Russell, especially after The Americans - and it had a very interesting cast including Rufus Sewell, Rory Kinnear, and Michael McLean.  But the tone is weird. On one level they are trying for a West Wing style with fast-paced snappy dialogue, but with elements of an espionage thriller (a bit like Designated Survivor starring Keifer Sutherland, especially with the whole frantically-scrambling-from-one-crisis-to-the-next storytelling).  But on another, there's a strange element of humour, and I can't quite tell if it's deliberate or accidental.  It's dry/wry - almost The Thick of It, especially with the swearing - but it feels dissonant with the rest of the show, like it can't quite make up its mind which kind of show it wants to be.

I'll keep watching - I'm keen to see how they develop the characters.  Keri Russell and Rufus Sewell are great.

To be fair, we fell for many such cash grabs when our kids were young.

Marvel were especially good at it:

Only recently started to watch Blacklist ( https://www.imdb.com/title/tt2741602/ ) and must say I really enjoy it. I was afraid it would be the same thing over and over again, as most series do but I have reached season 5 and so far its keeping me hooked as things have not gotten repetitive yet

I'm sure it's been said before here on GZ, but: Succession.

Quite brilliant IMO and I look forward to each weekly episode release on Neon in this final season.

Finished all eight episodes.  It was good.  The tone remained weird throughout, but the story was engaging and I enjoyed the cast and characters.  It ends on a cliffhanger, so fingers crossed season 2 gets announced soon.

After The Diplomat I moved onto Citadel on Amazon Prime.  Two episodes have been released, and they'll be releasing new episodes weekly.

It stars Richard Madden (Robb Stark from Game of Thrones), Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci.  It's a "spy" show, but it's less grounded and more fantastical - sci-fi type gadgets and gimmicks - and the spy agencies are more like Control v Chaos from Get Smart, rather than traditional IRL agencies.

The premise is that the two main leads are spies for Citadel ("the good guys") who, along with all the rest of Citadel, are attacked by Manticore ("the bad guys") and presumed dead.  But it turns out they are alive but are missing their memories. They get contacted by a former handler and are dragged back into their former lives.

It's not what I would call "clever", but it is fun.  Plenty of action, eye-candy, and it doesn't take itself too seriously.  Not quite a "dumb" show, but not something you need to watch with your brain turned up to 11.

Your wish is Netflix’s command - confirmed today there’ll be a second season ( https://variety.com/2023/tv/news/the-diplomat-season-2-netflix-keri-russell-1235599216/

I really enjoyed the series, finding it engaging with its focus on well-written dialogue - a good contrast with another recent watch - Ghosted - which contained mindless action and a terrible script. Wow, that was really bad…

Guilt season 1 - IPlayer - 7.5/10

Produced by BBC Scotland and set in Edinburgh this 4 episode season starts of pretty mildly and seems to be a light weight comedy about a couple of brothers from opposite ends of the success spectrum but it soon turns much darker with more twists and turns than a Coen Brothers movie.

Well worth a watch.
