Don't you just love "Lifetime offers" that are not....

You are making the wrong assumptions: ‘Lifetime’ refers to the lifetime of the product, not that of the user. 😉

That's why it's always been my favourite question to ask when someone is touting "lifetime" whatevers.  "Whose lifetime?"

I think social media have changed something fundamental. Wherever we are headed, it will never be back to where we were.

Don't get me started on social media. Meta's new "Hateful Conduct" policy is itself Hateful Conduct. I have nothing good to say about most social media (namely Twitter and Facebook).

Macpac disagrees with you. A few years ago my brother took a small backpack where the zip had failed for repair under the lifetime warranty, unfortunately since it was originally my grandfather's (d. 1994) backpack they considered it no longer covered.

You're misunderstanding the use of the term "lifetime", the product is under warranty until it fails/dies, that's the end of its lifetime and so there's no more warranty. "Guaranteed until it's not".

It seems like this is something that should be disambiguated in statute if retailers can't agree to be consistent.
Doesn't help internationally of course.

In a dystopian future companies will hire contractors to solve 'lifetime guarantee' issues.

Could be a basic plot point for a new 'hero' shooter game.

It’s just that it is such a target rich environment, and likely to get worse, that it will take over this thread.

There are specific threads in the Politics forum for people to vent their prejudices.

Yes, there are exceptions - but not for software. 😁

So long as the software vendor decides there's no planned obsolescence. We're looking at you, Microsoft, Google & Adobe.

Looking at Tripadvisor hotel recommendation and booking in Adelaide. Shows various hotel options for the dates entered via booking.com etc. Click on the "deals" and they come up with a price more than double what was indicated. All of them.

Yeah...check who owns who..... Bookings.com I believe is EU based, there are a bunch of others all under the one owner...all US based.

I will NEVER use Hotels.com again, we have 21 days of bookings for 3 rooms per day in the USA.

We have NOT received our "free nights"

Yes I have called them, yes they would get back to me.....and yes they now ignore me.

I wanted a new car battery for my UPS. Like everything else in this country, they have become far more expensive than they ought to be. I finally found something acceptable at Supercheap. But when I went in I could find no hint of the sale price stated on the web site. I checked very carefully, more than once. No indication at all. Nothing even close. One of the employees saw me searching and asked what I was looking for. I explained and he went off, looked up the item, wrote the stock number on his hand, searched the shelves, and finally found it. I got it for the price I wanted and nobody questioned that, but if I hadn't gone to the web site first I never would have known about it. All the listed prices in the shop were around $40 more. Surely this isn't correct?
