Tellicherry or Malabar pepper from a ceramic grinder is really one of the best things that can happen to a kitchen.

Friend's Delonghi dehumidifer would no longer run because the tank-full sensor has failed. They contacted Delonghi about getting it fixed but never got any reply, and if they did it'd probably cost a small fortune.

Or $4 for a microswitch and a bit of work with a Dremel:

In the past, you wouldn't have been sold something like that. There was a spare parts list and/or a circuit diagram with every unit.

Because people no longer ask for them, the manufacturers have secretly and quietly abolished first the documentation, then the spare parts service and now the repair service.

We customers are so stupid to go along with this (actually, I should now switch to the "annoying" department).

I was copied into an email to our GM today, in which I was called out for doing an exceptional job.

I thought I’d just done my job and did not expect to get any recognition for it.

It’s nice.

Snow arriving in Wellington. So far mix of sleet and snow together. Hope by morning all will be white.

Remutaka Hill is about 60 Km from Wellington and very high so not surprised. But Wellington city? It haven't arrived and we have blue skies now.

This is what snow looked like in Johnsonville, Aug 2011. We live at 200m. Our road was closed for two days, with a police line - cars and a bus abandoned because they couldn't go uphill anymore.

A light dusting of snow on the eastern hills above Te Awakairangi. Nothing like 2011.

The fact that if you're serving the gumboot tea brigade something like ten-year-aged [*] pu-erh tea, it's a good idea not to tell them you're brewing them up some genuine aged poo-err.

[*] Hard to give an exact date because the tag pressed into the brick has partly disintegrated, but around that age.

Just signed my new employment contract for a position I was offered last week. I'm smiling as its a company that has a reputation as a great place to work and a role that I'm super excited about.

My first job tomorrow now will be to submit my resignation.
