What's a SAFA?

Watched Blazing Saddles while sick at home at the beginning of this week: lots of chuckles, but not as good as Mel Brooks' other classics. 7/10

Started re-watching Sin City as well, to kill time. Always a good movie, but I'm biased because I like Frank Miller's work. 9/10

Yes I know the best is yet to come with the home theatre.... can't wait!
I have just seen a Panasonic Blu-ray player and HD recorder with freeview tuner included... oooo! Too bad it is $1000 but you can write to blank Blu-Ray discs as well. I think I will get a PS3 when GT4 comes out as I will enjoy games and keen on GH World Tour as well.

District 9: Saw this last night - bloody brilliant! I was captivated from start to finish. I have a few things I could fault with it, of course, but they came as close possible to creating the perfect sci-fi for me personally.

The acting performance was 2nd to none, and the alien characters were very easy to relate to and empathise with. I especially liked that there was no "hero" or "villain" in the film - all the characters were extremely flawed and I never quite knew what direction they were going to go in, making the whole film quite unpredictable.

5/5 for me!

Coraline 3D: Saw it today with the girlfriend, we both didnt enjoy it she almost feel sleep lol. But i guess this is more of a kids movie. Gets a 1/5 from me.

(Went to see it because i love 3D :P)

Crank 2: High Voltage.

Disappointing compared to the first. Way too over the top and completely misogynistic. Where the first one had incidental naked chicks, Crank 2 seemed to go out of its way to degrade women. Bleh.

Saw The Hangover yesterday. Very funny. 8/10 because I could associate with some of the stuff they went through.

Also saw Knowing, and it was pretty good until the last 10 minutes of the movie. Then it kinda took a turn for the bad. 7/10 for that.

I watched Role Models last night, it had some funny moments but probably not a movie I'd watch again. Although I did see some of myself in the Danny character, being overly cynical sometimes :)

I watched "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" on TV2 on Sunday night ....

Pure crap - and the most painful film I seen this year.

I love horror films - but the unnecessary blood and gore and the way it leaves you feeling empty and wondered why you wasted your time.

It is films like this that makes you realize how clever Alfred Hitchcock was.

Separation City: 8/10. Great kiwi movie. Very Funny. Hard to categorise: Not a romcom. Saved from being a chick flick by the sex and crude jokes. A good one to see with the missus (if your relationship is robust!) or with your same-sex mates.

Lots to relate to for anyone that's been in a long-term relationship.

District 9: 7/10. Splat!! Lots of hand-held camera work: Don't go if you get motion sickness - seriously. Almost the perfect scifi film let down by a cheesy ending.

Interests: HTPC, Web App authoring.

Nety: skyhigh, there is around the same amount of information being sent be it 720p or 1080i.

720p is a lower resolution but the whole picture is updated every frame. 1080i is a higher resolution but only half the picture is updated every frame (every second line).

The end result is that they look much the same on the screen. I seem to remember that 1080i is better for fast moving stuff like sports.

That's not right.

720p updates a complete frame every 25th of a second. 1080i updates 1 field every 50th of a second, or a complete frame every 25th of a second. So both update a full frame at the same speed.

The fields allow double the refresh rate, so movement is updated more often. That gives a sharper result for movement.

And doubling the 'refresh rate' doubles the 'perceived resolution' so 1080i should be much better looking than 720p. But most consumer monitors, and/or sources just aren't good enough to really appreciate the difference.

But that's just technicalities, everyone sees pictures differently, and personal millage will vary with light, cable, technology, and the direction of the wind.

Watched Lesbian Vampire Killers on sat morning (wasn't bad, light hearted British vampire movie, and not not as rude as the title suggests). And Watched Wild Hogs on TV2 sat. Light hearted again, not bad, Martin Lawrence and William H Macy definitely the standout characters.

Watched two great movies this weekend that are definitely worth checking out.

1) - In the Loop - hilarious comedy about Anglo-american politic relations

2) - State of Play - nice thriller, also political but nothing too deep, great twists tho
