Dratsab:

How It Ends - a Netflix movie starring Forest Whitaker. His name drew me in, but I found it a reasonably disappointing film overall. Boringly predictable with the protaganists stumbling from one situation to another, seemingly unable to think ahead. The writers would fit right into the Hollywood cheese factory, if they aren't part of it already. Numerous scenes throughout the movie didn't make sense in terms of the implied ending - I'd give it a 3/10.

I watched that as well. Was awful same as you probably a 3/4 out of 10.

Ant Man and the Wasp - 6/10

First trip out to the movies at night in over a year, since our little girl was born, and I struggled to stay awake.  To be fair, this wasn't a fault of the film - I was just out way past my bedtime...

Of all the MCU films, I found Ant Man to be the least engaging.  I remember that the trailers made the film look really good, and even though Paul Rudd isn't my cup of tea, I was prepared to give it a shot.  It disappointed me; the lighter, comedic elements of that film kind of just glided past, and the rest of the film - the action, the story, felt a bit flimsy (not bad, just forgettable).  So with the sequel coming out, I was a little wary.  But once again I saw the trailers and once more the trailers made the film look really interesting.  But - surprise, surprise - once again the film was a bit of a let down.

The story is okay, the characters are fine, the action is mostly good (and some of the fight scenes are quite good).  But overall it just feels too insubstantial.  I've been trying to work out if it's just that Paul Rudd does nothing for me, or if it's something else.  A few others have mentioned how nice it is for the stakes to be lowered, rather than perpetually raised (and how the bad guys aren't trying to take over the world - again!).  I would totally agree with that.  Endlessly upping the stakes (I'm in danger; the city is in danger; the country is in danger!; the world is in danger!; the GALAXY is in the danger!; the UNIVERSE is in danger!; all of REALITY IS IN DANGER!!!) will eventually run out, and leave us with nowhere to go.  However, despite a more personal story in this film, it somehow felt a bit hollow, and when I woke up I felt a bit meh about it all.  Though, to be fair, the fact I struggled to stay awake possibly diminishes my right to be critical of the film.

Why the sony over the JVC?

Although, the sony is still an awesome pj and priced pretty fairly for the NZ market.

I really want a laser projector, but they are still a bit pricey.

To be honest, it was a tough choice. I *really* liked the JVC E-Shifter x5900 the x7900 didn't fit in budget. I loved it's blacks, but ultimately as a gamer primarily, the Native 4K and the fact I got the Sony for an unbelieveable price, sealed it for me. It's also worth noting that x5900 is being replaced shortly with no stock coming in, so it's stock on hand only. The likely replacement isn't native 4K either I believe. Laser have input lag >50ms which wasn't desireable to me and there are other issues. Probably could be it's own thread actually.

The Sony was a great price and "good" enough, though I will have to live with the colour banding at 4K HDR 60fps in games.

MI6 - I do think Cruise was the right choice for this franchise. This was another action pack plot twisting edition. Maybe didn't love it quite as much as some of the others, but still really good. Watched on Imax. Lots of lovely NZ scenery 8/10.

Yeah I enjoyed it, and didn't expect what happened.  Even though the subject matter has been front of mind lately what with some of the TV shows and PS4 games I've been playing.  I can see why it's getting trashy reviews, but it's a solid sci-fi.

Ant Man & The Wasp. 7/10

To it's credit, it remembered throughout that it is supposed to be a comic, not a serious movie. Not as good as Deadpool or Deadpool 2 though.

Skyscaper - Formulaic and predictable some interesting scences, and OK action. Nice to see Neve Campbell on the screen again! 7/10

Not quite a movie but waded through the Vietnam War documentary recently, each episode is nearly 2 hours but meticulously put together and paced, critical of the US and South Vietnamese leaders without being disparaging. Really worth sinking your teeth into via Netflix.

Also watched Avengers: Infinity War and while it had long since been spoiled, it still hit me in the feels a bit. Only real gripe was that for a movie with a lot of events, it didn't allow itself to deal with the (emotional) impact of them. I think they've missed a trick by announcing the releases of movies involving characters that had died so its obvious that Avengers 4 will undo it all.

The twist was quite clever, but didn't make a lot of sense when you give it any extra thought (can't elaborate without major spoilers).

It was an interesting idea but ultimately, in my opinion, a missed opportunity. 5/10

I have found, whenever you watch fiction, especially Science Fiction you are better to save your analysis and just suspend your disbelief.
