So this was interesting.

Downer are about to do some street surface repairs close to our place, where underground water has collapsed the road seal (something I first started reporting to Wellington City Council 18 months ago - but that's another story). Anyway Downer are there today spraying out the area to be excavated and in addition to using the usual CAT locator devices, there was a guy using divining rods and spraying marks in appropriate places - presumably to locate either water pipes or underground water. Quite the mix of "technologies" there...

Doing a drive upgrade on my server and everything going fine (knock on wood). 12 hours to go and the data will be rebuilt. Everything seems to still work fine.

Haha. It's not a panic upgrade with the old config backed up. I still have the old data drive sitting on the shelf so I'll probably be ok Inshallah

This started out as an annoyance. My garden clippers were sticking and wouldn’t return properly. I thought I could fix this by stretching the spring to increase its tension.

Removing a compression spring is a bit of a hassle, but eventually I got it and was able to stretch it with pliers and a vice clamp.

Putting a compression spring back is much, much worse. After having it spring around the room several times, requiring lengthy searches, I decided to try another approach.

I got some thin wire and threaded it into the spring. I then found a long screw and put it through from end to end, gradually tightening it to compress the spring. I then twisted the ends of the wire tightly together to hold the spring in place and removed the screw. I was then able to fit the spring back into place and release the wire with cutters. The clippers seem to work much better now.

This fix will seem obvious to all the people here who are brighter than I am, but it might be helpful to some who aren’t and it definitely made me smile.

Tests with fast.com always seemed more brutal on CPU usage of my RB2011 than speedtest.net.

Not so much with my AX2

My iPhone gets the same speed

Will sell both routers at some point and swap to an AX3 for USB.

Unsuspectingly bought a smart hue Edison LED light bulb from my power company's webshop (here in GER) as a gimmick for my maker workshop - there happened to be a 7% discount on it, no shipping costs,

and here it comes: a relatively pricey Bosch smart starter kit "heating" came for free with it (the zigbee gateway and a thermostat II). Crazy times right now.

I don't know if I should rate that a consolation for what we are facing here in Europe in the winter but adding some thermostats, it is a nice Xmas gift for my sister‘s home. 😗

When an official email from Microsoft, extolling the virtues of Microsoft 365, being sent to an outlook.com address ends up being caught by their own spam filtering 😀

That I now know my way around the entire, older neighborhood (the good ones, you know, who are also always helpful) with the smart heating controllers (and especially valve thread adapters) and have installed the times just in between as a neighborhood help. Whether from eve, tado, Bosch, homematic or aqara - we are now excellently supplied with warm, self-knitted socks, gloves, scarves and Christmas cake for the next time.

I’m looking forward to seeing the family, I’m not sure how I’ll feel about being back in NZ, I think it’ll all be a bit surreal. We’ve got a few days in Singapore on the way which will be nice.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

That the world is better understood when viewed from other angles than from the same position over and over again. :-)
