Smiling as I'm grateful of people such as Andrew who are observant of their surroundings and act on hunches.

During the 2020 lockdown I was out cycling with my teenage son and I had a heart attack during that ride. Passer-by in a car saw me hunched over on side of road and thought things didn't quite look right so he turned around. My son was already on phone to ambulance at that stage but our good samaritan stayed to support me and my son and hung around until my wife and medical services arrived.

EDIT: Adding that he was also prepared to break his bubble to render whatever assistance if it came to it.

If you can't laugh at yourself then you probably shouldn't laugh at others.

I just spent another delightful half-hour tying a scammer in knots. I could have kept him going forever but I can only sustain this for so long. I finally asked him if he had a family, and then changed my voice and told him it was a pity that his daughter's father was an F-ing scammer! After that I let the calls go to voicemail. He tried several times before giving up.

Won a small amount in Lotto last night so a bit of spare cash over Xmas. The last month has been a spending frenzy on repairs and difficult problems. It will be nice to throw a few dollars around to people that have sparked joy and who I wouldn’t normally give to. Maybe things are finally looking up.

Enjoy it @Eva888. So nice to get a little windfall at this time of year. Just takes the pressure off and allows you to enjoy the time, especially if you've had a few unbudgeted bills of late.

You have no idea...the stuff that’s happened would make a grown man cry, from floods to other chaos. Feel so happy to be able to share it around and give a few surprises.

That is good news at this time of year.

So, what time does the Ferrari dealer close?

Nice. There’s a phrase I like that I think applies.

It will be alright in the end, if it’s not alright it’s not the end.

I'm happy as a snow king to have got from one of the last traditional knife smiths in Solingen an actually still hand-forged bread knife with a blade length of 32 cm and an overall length of 45 cm at a fair price (a short sword?). The standard blade length is usually 23 cm but too short for round loaves of traditional kinds of bread. BTW in Germany there are officially 1,143 known types of bread. It goes by the name of Güde Alpha 1431/32 and comes before New Year's Eve - just in time for the last bread baking of the year in our kitchen. But do not accidently order the Damascus steel variant, which costs 33 times! I guess this is not for buyers of pre-sliced 11cm x 11cm white toast anyway. 😉

If you want to cut up Bauernbrot you'll need at least that, or better a hacksaw. I think pterry's Dwarf bread was modelled on it.

My daughters teacher is leaving at the end of January. That’s not good news for us but he’s got a job not far from Palmerston North.

It gives him and his very young family a chance to get a decent passport and a more sustainable life than they had in South Africa. We’re very happy for him.

That today is the last day of the year for the School in our Street! (1500+ Students - No Buses!) No more arrogant parents blocking the Street etc (We have No Stopping restrictions that they all ignore) until the end of January!

YAY!
