This incredibly shallow (imo) review in NZH today of United Airlines’ business class AKL/SFO doesn’t even say what type of aircraft is flown.

I'd place a good bet it's a 787-9. United is definitely a Boeing shop, and the clue is that they mentioned the buttons that lighten or darken the window - that's a Dreamliner feature only if I recall correctly..

Yes I actually knew that too but I guess many people wouldn’t give a toss. To me it just demonstrates the amateurish review.

Photo caption in The Herald:

“Lance Goodhew on day one of his trial against Maritime New Zealand at the Whangārei District Court.”

His trial is not “against” anyone. He’s being prosecuted by MNZ on behalf of the Crown but it’s not “against” them.

IANAL but in my law studies (50+ years ago) I remember learning that civil and criminal cases have different reporting styles - in civil cases the ‘v’ was pronounced ‘and’. In criminal cases, the ‘v’ was pronounced ‘against’.

Maybe that’s no longer the case (pardon the pun 😀).

Someone scammed a free ride with the obligation they write a review.

While I agree with the sentiment, you should make it it clear it is you opinion, or risk being sued for defamation.

That’s what it appears to be and is what I thought too. If that’s the case, imo it’s not a review - it’s a puff piece.

Just asked a lawyer mate about this and he confirms my comment - saying that’s right and it’s still the correct and proper way to refer to civil and criminal cases.

So why is it said "Roe vee Wade" when reporting that particular case?

Americans don’t have the same conventions and do it differently. What I’m saying is applicable across the Commonwealth - or most of it. Certainly England, Australia and NZ anyway.

This story in NZH today is about a fatal shooting in Ponsonby Road, Auckland, on Sunday night. The story mentions 'Sol's Place' (a cafe outside which the shooting happened) plus 'a pub' and 'a pizza shop'. It does not mention 'Glengarry Wines' - but in a satellite photo of the area there's a big red pointy label identifying only 'Glengarry Wines'.

Now I wonder why the Herald would do something like that?

This headline in the Herald today says: “Construction truck rolls downhill in Remuera, hits worker and allegedly flees scene”.

This is repeated in the story: “A worker is in critical condition after a construction vehicle rolled down a hill in Remuera and hit him last night before allegedly fleeing the scene”.

Bad truck! Naughty truck!
