the meg

easily matches the sharknado films for sheer dumbness

this dreary film goes on and on ...

there's no reason this has to be nearly 2 hours long, 60-70min would have been ample for the story.

1/10

Alien: Covenant

I am not an Aliens fan but a huge Predator fan, and I had just watched the latest predator movie, so I thought Id give covenant a go.

REALLY liked it. I thought it was well written and well produced. 7/10 from me.

Something about Ridley Scott using Guy Pearce and Fassbender in a lot of his movies of late. To be fair both are very seasoned actors in the quality of young Anothony Hopkins sorts. Guy Pearce is still in shape. I remember him 30 odd years ago in neigbours, he had a mean body then and that was well before actors were training and had modern science on their side.

I look forward to the next chapter in Predator or Aliens.

xpd:

Halloween (2018) - Was ok, gory as expected but as for actual "scare" factor, very little. Maybe Ive become desensitized to this stuff....... :)

6/10

For sure, I think movies like Saw and Hostel kind of ruined the gore movies. In the 70s and 80s was the glory days, Halloween, Nightmare on E street, Childs Play etc. But I think it was back when christianity paranormal thoughts still scared people as a lot more people are atheist now, Exorcist (people commited suicide after seeing this), Poltergeist, Omen.

I grew up watching horrors as a kid, anyone remember good oldf Sunday night horrors on channel 1 hehe, and i think that desensitised me to horror. At the time the only movies that scared me were vampire ones.

A Star Is Born 8/10

Bradley Cooper can sing; GaGa certainly can sing - both make this film very enjoyable.

However, given the content of the storyline, I strongly advise people to carefully read the censors warnings on this film before seeing it.

Bohemian Rhapsody 8/10

Great performances from ALL of the actors paying the Queen members.  Also, the LiveAid recreation is quite correctly the highlight of the film.  Story-wise, the film is pretty solid, but it does play light-ball with the material - a deeper, more authentic expose on the lives and stories of the main characters would have been welcome.

The Girl In The Spider's Web

Very good despite the change of actress.

Some willing suspension of disbelief required but a great action/thriller.

Suburbicon 7/10

Set in suburban America in the 60's mixes murder with racial segregation in 2 separate story lines.

Written by the Coen brothers, directed by George Clooney and starring Matt Damon and Julianne Moore. Typical Coen brothers story with murder and mayhem but somehow lacks the atmosphere of some of their other work. Maybe they should have directed it.
