Construction truck rolls downhill in Remuera, hits worker and allegedly flees scene”.

This is repeated in the story: “A worker is in critical condition after a construction vehicle rolled down a hill in Remuera and hit him last night before allegedly fleeing the scene”.

Maybe it just kept rolling? How far do "you" have to go before you're deemed to have fled?

Was it on foot when it fled?

The story doesn’t make that clear - and it also doesn’t say how it hit him. It could have been a piledriver haymaker or a punishing uppercut. Or maybe it hit him with a Stillson wrench.

Mother of baby taken when her car was stolen handed $200 bill by police. NZHerald 16 May 24

Apart from the poor grammar, this is more misleading than dumb.

The $200 is to tow her “not drivable” car to a place of repair after it was forensically examined by Police. The Police covered the cost of retrieving the vehicle in the first place and taking it to be examined.

I have sympathy for the woman whose car was stolen with her baby inside, that would be really horrible. But even without Police involvement the car would have required a tow truck and a fee. If her dad (interviewed for the article) wants to get angry, get angry at the toe rags who stole the car and trashed it.

No, the $200 is to repay Police for the initial tow to be examined. Any other towing needed will be extra

I guess I just interpreted the following from the article a little differently;

"She (the police spokesperson) explained how the cost was incurred: "The vehicle was initially towed and stored at a vehicle storage facility for forensic examination.
Police paid for this, as is usual where forensic tow is required. Once the examination was complete, the victim was advised that her vehicle was ready to be collected.
The vehicle was not drivable, and costs associated with towing and repair are the owner's responsibility. While we can appreciate that paying to retrieve her vehicle in this instance could be distressing, this is something required of everyone in instances where a veh8cle has had to be forensically towed."

The article is written by a reporter with a whole 2 years experience and you can tell by the ambiguity in it.

At least they have caught one of the (alleged) offenders. I hope the judge treats the dumping of the baby on the roadside as an aggravating factor.

No link. New Zealand does not have $200 dollar bills. False.

This is not an aggravating factor it is the primary offense.
