https://www.nzherald.co.nz/travel/korean-air-flight-drops-8000m-in-15-minutes-17-passengers-injured/LUBQSPEVLNHS7D2QQJRUGGDSXY/

A major system failure resulted in a Korean Air flight suddenly dropping 8168m (26,900ft) in just 15 minutes, injuring 17 passengers.

So, a descent rate of 1750 feet/minute. i.e. a perfectly normal descent.

Were they in the outside smoking area at the time?

The article states passengers experienced nosebleeds and oxygen masks. It does not mention any turbulence style fall injuries. Presumably the service has only a 15 minute resolution or someone arbitrarily selected it.

The nose bleeds were most likely from the sudden depressurisation.

1750 ft/min or 8000 feet in 15 minutes is a very low rate of descent under the circumstances. You might expect 4-5000 ft/min or greater for an emergency descent.

It was 26900 feet in 15 minutes, so normal.

The caption to the NZH photo says: "Passengers were subjected to a terrifying order after a Korean Air flight suddenly dropped 8000 metres."

Typo above.

and the article uses "plummeted"

The one original article credited is in The Independent and looks very different.

An SCMP article has:

"Roughly 30 minutes after taking off, the plane started descending sharply, dropping nearly 7600 metres (25,000 feet) in five minutes, according to data from FlightRadar24".

That one links to a business insider article as a source:

Have to wonder what order they were subjected to.

Something like: “All of you - plummet - at once, immediately!

Joe Biden vs Donald Trump debate: When is it, and how to watch from New Zealand - NZ Herald

In New Zealand, you can watch it through Three Now’s free CNN Fast channel, and Sky TV subscribers can view it on CNN, Fox News and Sky News Australia.

Three Now's free CNN Fast channel did not stream the debate. They just kept streaming the mind-numbing clips from their daily stories.

Again, there is no fact-checking.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

How can we go a whole week without something needing to go here?!!

Today in the NZ Herald...

I'm wondering if "provocative" was the word they were looking for.

Though on some level I can see how "proactive" might be appropriate.

"Prime Minister Christopher Luxon meets with California Mayor Gavin Newsom".

Newsom is the governor of California, not the mayor. (RNZ)

i'm getting sick and tired of those overhyped weather forecasts in the media.

metservice predicts light rain with heavy rain watch. media headlines "heavy rain warning!!". its becoming boy who cried wolf. ever since Gabrielle they are so overhyping anything that might be bad weather. hysteria at its finest.
