Annihilation NF 7.5/10

Not a bad effort from director Alex Garland and star Natalie Portman.

Sci-fi story about a mysterious 'shimmer' that appears and what happens to people who investigate it.

Suite Française on NF - set the early days of the occupation of France in WWII. Good little story by BBC Films - in English.

Aquaman 7.5/10

A bit cheesy in places; somewhat heavy-handed with the "save the ecosystem" message; and the "anti-aging" CGI of poor old Temuera Morrison in the beginning was truly awful; but overall actually pretty good - probably the best DC movie to date.

Bird Box

5/10 Mildly entertaining.

OK story-line and reasonable acting but too many holes in the plot and too far-fetched for my liking.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Bruce Springsteen on Broadway NF 8/10

Springsteen's one man show (well nearly) is a must see if you like the man. The first half is the best where he draws such vivid pictures of his family and growing up in his hometown that you feel you know them. A good sense of humour as well and he doesn't mind a joke at his own expense either.

The second half drags a little but his renditions of some of his classics with just him, his guitar and mouth organ are outstanding. No wonder they are so good when he has a group backing him.

Well worth a couple of hours of your life.

Whitney Houston NF 6/10

A train wreck waiting to happen from a young age, this biopic exposes all her faults as well as showing how popular she was at the time.

She was always a bit shouty for me and, as the movie shows, was simply manufactured to appeal to the masses.

Currently going through all the X-Men films on blu-ray.

So far...

X-Men This actually aged better than I thought it would, incredibly cheesy at points (not in a good way) and some absolutely terrible acting, including that of the now revered Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. However with Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart at the helm they made this a relatively decent film and credit where credit's due this is probably the film that really kicked off the whole superhero genre that we are still revelling/suffering in. 6/10

X2 Now this is a step up for sure, Hugh Jackman got a 50% buff to his Wolverine making him more badass but more likeable at the same time, the acting overall was a lot better and the younger mutants playing a bigger part was great as they were the ones struggling the most to come to terms with what/who they were and really set the atmosphere of the whole film. Ian McKellan and Patrick Stewart were again the show stealers but they didn't need to save it like they did the first. 9/10

After all the hype finally watched Bird Box last night. Big Sandra fan and she again didn’t disappoint. I thought it wasn’t bad and couldn’t see where all the negativity was coming from. Interesting premise, well acted and shot. 7/10.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Also watched this last night and I agree with this review.

Watched Split the other day and all I can say is James McAvoy is one hell of an actor, very suspenseful all the way to the end, definitely worth a watch. 9/10

I was a bit mixed about Bird Box. Having just watched A Quiet Place again it seemed that I enjoyed the latter a lot more.

I'd give Bird Box 6.5/10.

It wasn't a bad movie, but I thought the ending was a little weak.

Watched "Blazing Saddles" last night on Netflix. I originally saw it when it first came out in the early 70's. I even have a directors cut DVD.

OH DEAR - it is just so Politically Incorrect. It would not even get made these days, or it would be heavily censored or just rewritten.

Still a very funny Mel Brooks movie though. Most of the cast, except Mel, is dead now.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
