Ambiguous headline in NZH today: "Formal complaint laid against NZ Law Society president ... after church group advised it could destroy records of all children in its care".
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.

The nice photo of Mt Cook Lakeside Retreat in the South Island with a descriptive line underneath
The northern lights over Mt. Cook Lakeside Retreat.
They must've been very strong that night.

So ‘far-right thugs’ should be condemned by "right-minded people"? ... 🙄
An unfortunate turn of phrase.

What is an "irrigation farm"?
From the Stuff Homepage!

Don't know but I would guess it is a farm where irrigation ditches line the orchards to water the trees. I remember something like this from my youth. These ditches would probably make great practice runs for a kayaker.

When you're right, you're right.
But sometimes, you can be too right, Mate.
Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21
We have a family member, ‘A’, who works in middle management at NZME. At various times we have discussed this thread with A and the disrepute/ridicule that it brings to the organisations cited in the thread - well, within GZ at least.
A few days ago A mentioned that NZME are soon going to introduce some sort of AI content checker that will pick up spelling, grammatical and other issues in their news stories prior to publication. Sounds like a Grammarly-type thing.
Good luck with that - IMO this raises more questions than it answers.

Not a headline per se, but Stuff has published a page for the afternoon quiz... without the actual quiz on it.
More nonsense from NZH tonight.
This story says “One lucky punter is $44 million richer after winning tonight’s Lotto Powerball draw”.
Then a bit later in the story they say “If tonight’s jackpot is not won, the prize pool will increase to a $50m must-be-won draw.” “With such a big prize up for grabs, Lotto NZ is expecting high demand for Saturday night’s draw and is encouraging customers to get in early.” And a lot more along these lines - ignoring the fact that the prize was won.
This is what happens when you want to get a story up quickly - and blindly cut and paste without proofreading.

I am not sure any AI would fix clickbait like this:

I was like "What? Did NZ win more gold medals than other countries?"
But the article clarifies:

There have been some shockers from the Olympics. Two examples from Stuff:
Why did Lyles get the gold medal when he didn't cross the line first?
Ans: he did cross first.
Why do medal winners bite their medals?
Ans: because the media ask them to.
Yawn.
I can’t read the whole NZH story today about a failed property development company called Du Val because the story is behind a paywall - but the caption to a photo of two people says: “Du Val founders Kenyon and Charlotte Clarke are in interim receivership.”
What rubbish - people do not go into receivership.

Not wanting to be a “corrector”, but people can go into receivership. Doesn’t happen often, but they can. Not sure whether these people are in receivership or not, so can’t comment the accuracy of the article.
You are absolutely right - I did not know that - thought it applied only to companies.
I just found this which states: “Receivers can be appointed over companies, individuals, trusts and partnerships”.
“The High Court has placed Du Val Capital Partners Limited together with a number of entities within the Du Val Group, into interim receivership, at the request of the Financial Markets Authority – Te Mana Tātai Hokohoko. The interim receivership orders were also made in respect of Kenyon and Charlotte Clarke.”
