Wreck it Ralph 2 5/10 Dunno what it was missing but just didn't have the fun of the original.
Spiderman Into the Spidey Verse 8.5/10 Really enjoyed this, I hope they do more. For me much better than all other spiderman films.

Bird Box - I only watched this because I found out yesterday that Trent Reznor an Atticus Ross did the score.....which is fabulous as usual. Pleasantly surprised by the film, although it asks a lot of the viewer to suspend disbelief in some circumstances - and I don't mean the more sci-fi aspects, I mean the sociological aspects. Sandra Bullock was great though, it's well worth a watch.

Going to see Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse on Sunday for my birthday. Can't wait, just finished the PS4 game and all it's DLC's so am on a big Spider-Man kick lately. Watched Amazing Spider Man yesterday and it's not as bad as I remember, very watchable. The 2nd one is trash though.

Black Mirror / Bandersnatch

Does this count as a movie?

Definately has the black mirror feel. Some of the endings are quite different.

Rating? 6/10 for novelty purposes

Ralph Wrecks The Internet... 3/10 The first was OK, but this was pretty boring.

Bird Box.. something about blindfolds and boating.

And today we took the kids to How To Train Your Dragon 3: The Hidden World... 7/10. Better than the 2nd one, plus it had miss9 AND miss15 in tears... lol.

And I didn't even fall asleep!

Mary Poppins 2 coming up next week I think.

Filling in holidays when the temp is in the 40s is expensive!

Ive watched a lot of streamers since my last post but nothing stands out. I rent immediate on release which can be a dissapointment when 3 weeks later it shows up on streaming sub sites for free :-). So Ive stopped doing that and I give them a month to see if they will be bought by netflix etc.

Anyway last movie watched

A Bridge to Far, 1968. Sean Connery, Jene Hackman, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Robert Redford. You all have probably seen this must watch WW2 classic. 9/10

Have it on DVD - love it 9/10 - a whole bunch of great actors of that era in it. A Great classic war movie.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Aquaman. Gets average reviews but I thought it was outstanding! One of the best action movies of 2018 easily. I recommend 3D Imax for the full effect. The scale of the scenes rivalled LOTR and the 3D was pretty good. Plot was OK, acting was ok, action was fantastic. It's going on my UHD movie list when it gets released so I can watch it at home.

Watched a few movies during the Xmas/NY break...

Aquaman - 8/10

I won't say much, as @networkn has said most of it. Compared to recent DC efforts (Justice League, Suicide Squad) its head and shoulders above them, with perhaps the exception of Wonder Woman which was equally good. I've always liked Jason Momoa, back in his Stargate:Atlantis days, and he strikes a good balance with the action and mostly-unforced humour. Not knowing any of the background from the comics, it was interesting to see the sub-plot of Manta, and the post-credits scene makes it clear they are planning for a sequel, which I'd be happy to see.

Mortal Engines - 7/10

I recently finished reading the Philip Reeve series of books, which I thought were excellent, so perhaps I was too close to the source material to fully appreciate the adaptation. My wife, who read the books first (but a while ago), really liked it but I guess I was expecting something closer to the original story. My wife insisted that the changes were necessary to make the transition from paper to film, but I'm not so sure. For those in the know, the guilds played a bigger role in the "world-building" of London, particularly the Guild of Engineers and the Mayor, but this is all but ignored in the film. While some (i.e. my wife) may argue that it's necessary, I found it stripped some of the meaning from the story. For instance, the motivation of Thaddeus Valentine is altered, which I think will have consequences for any later films that are adapted from the series. The result of the climactic battle also affects any movies from the final book in the series. While overall is was okay, I felt a little let down by the conversion process.

However, I thought they did an excellent job casting Anna Fang - Jihae perfectly captures the essence of Fang - while the representation of the stalker Shrike and the iconic Jenny Hanniver airship was spot on.

Bumblebee - 8/10

I gave up on the Transformers series with "Dark Side of the Moon" or whatever the third film was called. The second was borderline at best, but I gave the third a shot and after that didn't bother. I didn't even know they were making a new film until a few weeks ago when I saw the trailer. I liked the direction they were taking it - back to the 80s, focussing on on a smaller cast - so gave it a shot when I had a couple of hours to kill last week. I think they did a really good job with Bumblebee. It starts with the Battle for Cybertron which is the first time they managed to show robots fighting without making it so fast and blurry that you can't actually make out what's happening. The Autobots (especially Optimus Prime) are based off the Gen 1 designs, which was pleasingly retro. When the action shifts to Earth the story focusses on Charlie, an 18-year old girl who discovers Bumblebee in a wrecking yard and rescues him. Hailee Steinfeld does a great job with bringing the story to life, and Bumblebee's animation is miles ahead of anything they did with the previous films. I also liked the way they filled in some of the background details to mesh with the previous films. Being a prequel they could have just rebooted everything, but they worked around previous films rather than overwriting them. We get to see Bumblebee talk, then lose his voice, then regain it. Little details like this make the film feel more complete.

While I don't have particularly strong memories of the original 80s cartoon, to me it felt more faithful than Bay's previous efforts. While he's still a producer, he's no longer director and consequently the films are about 90% less Bay-hem, which is the right amount of Bay... We still get the military stuff thrown in there, but it's a little less jingoistic.

Im a big fan of Luc Besson so i dont think i was ever not going to like this one. Ok so the story line and acting are not the best thing ever but i really enjoyed it for exactly what it is, a visual slingshot through the imagination of a sci fi director. Great sound and stunning visuals. i like it !

"The Last Hangover" Netflix.

Hilarious, more so if you are atheist and can see reality In some of the things the big book written 300 years (handed down myths aka ***** whispers) after Jesus death says.

But I think every modern realist Christians who follow the faith for moral guidance not using the book as facts, will find this pretty blimmin funny too.

Its a bit rough n ready and definitely not subtle in the gags. 7/10 for me, some might not enjoy the satire so can understand lower scores, or the other way some finding the style very appealing and scoring it higher.

I was super disappointed by the Spiderman into the spiderverse. It got such good reviews, but I thought it was decidedly average. I thought it was ok in parts and awful in others. Perhaps I just don't have a big of a following of the comics or the canon.

6/10 for me.

Epic doesn't cut it. And they're not so much "effects". It's animation, but it's unlike any animation I've ever seen. The final act is mind-bending. It's like watching a comic book come alive in front of you. Absolutely stunning.
